Guys ...... why do you want to change the muffler on the 5th Gen Maxima if you're not boosted ? Aren't they supposed to be superior to those aftermarket muffler ? I heard that the 5th gen muffler has 2 valves and only one opens up to 2500 rpm and both opens from 2500 rpm upwards.

Ive seen that muffler only on Hondas and Acuras, and anything on those cars sounds RICEY ! Yes the powertech is THROATY, and a nice enough rumble, but not irritating. Just the looks of it makes people wonder whats in your car...Im just afraid of what my car will sound like when they make a Y pipe for it, and Headers, which im definetly getting, when available..

Ricey

Dude that thing looks ricey. Ricey enough to negate any cool sounding exhuast tones.
I woudn't stick that thing on a Maxima. Its going to look tacky.

I liked the powertech, and I personally dont like the Greddy muffler. So I got the powertech, and I'm having a custom B pipe made... same objective, but I got what I wanted...

Hey 2K2_6spd, now your max is going to sound like a mustang, the PTR muffler make a nice growl.

Cheers

I always thought the Maxima looked funny with the fat can sticking out the back. The powertech looks as ricey as anything to me. 4" tips and it extends 2" past the rear bumper, and the dull plasticky color doesn't look clean.

The hayama might be a ricer's choice, but I like the streamlined look to it. No fat can hanging from the back.

That's what I thought...even if it is a screaming deal, I hate the way it looks....And if it's ricey....FORGET IT....I'll wait and see how my intake and Y-Pipe sound...that might be all I need. Thanks for the advice.

The powertech I got has 3.5" tips, and it doesn't have to stick out past the bumper, it all depends on who installs it.

This finish doesn't look dull to me.

Your's actually looks nice. The pic in kloogy's sig makes the muffler look ricey. Tips are too big and stick out too far. $85 you say?

Yup, $85.00 on e-bay, and this thing would go for $200.00++ in a shop. Just go to e-bay and do a search for "Powertech"

They only sound ricey cause their 4-bangers. A V6 has a deeper sounding tone.
but yeah, the big tip is to get a quality muffler that won't rust out in 3 weeks.

Have you PM'ed RBa yet? Someone posted earlier that he actually has this muffler. His word might be more meaningful than all this conjecture.
