Keep the 2k1 or buy the 2k3
Keep the 2k1 or buy the 2k3
Ok here's my question. As you can see from my sig I currently own a 2k1 Maxima auto and am wondering if you guys were in the same position i'll be in would you trade and get the 2k3 6spd or just keep the 2k1 and mod it. Now I ask this because if I trade, this will be the 6th car i'll have owned in about 7 yrs which is cool that i've been able to own all these cars, but financially was stupid because i've still never owned a car. Please give me a reason you either would or would not trade. Now although i've said this before I do truly believe that if I were to buy the 2k3 that I would defeintly keep it for good. Reason being is it's to date the fastest and most advanced Maxima ever built. So please help. Oh by the way this won't happen until around January next year. Below is a list of the cars i've owned. Also do not suggest other cars like the 350Z or G35 cause it ain't going to happen. If it happens at all it'll be with the 2k3 Maxima. Thanks.

I think I feel your pain. I'm going to stop getting new cars now, and stick with this one till she dies. Of course I said that about the explorer, but this time I mean it!!!

haha what happens when the 2K4 then the 2K5 then the 2K6 comes out.. then you'll wanna keep trading.. its a neverending process man. just keep your 2K1, mod it, and pay it off. i could've kept on trading for newer and better cars, but hey i saved up my money for a brand new spankin house and some cool tech toys.
btw.. the 2K3 will be competing against the avalon.. have fun!

I think that most likely i'll keep my current Maxima and just mod it. I drove the 2k2 before I left for Korea and I wasn't impressed. The auto is quicker than mine, but it doesn't feel that much quicker and the 6spd just plain sucked. The gears were hard to engage which slowed down my acceleration. Plus when I come back the 2k4 will be almost out and who knows it may look better than the 2k2 and i'll want to trade again. Also one thing to factor in is the fact that by the time I get back i'll owe just a hair under $22,000 on it and to trade in for a 2k2 I would have to put down around $3,000 to $4000 on top of what I already payed. That's a hell of alot of money to pay for speed.

If the 2K4 is even better, like you said, you may want to trade again for the 2K4. If the 2K4 sucks you could still get a leftover 2K3. I may do just that after I pay down my loan more between now and the release of the 2K4. You might want to check out the G35 also. When I test drove the 2K2 6-speed, I did not like the feel of the 6-speed cable shifter either. The 2-3 shift and reverse were very hard to engage.

changing cars is like throwing away $, in most cases. at least keep it a couple of years and build some equity. oh, and if you're trading in your car be prepared to bring the vasoline to the dealership because they might charge xtra to use theirs.

I just want to trade in my 2k1 cause i'd rather have a manual tranny car. But I don't want to buy a max that's built in the states... got bad experience with japanese cars assembled here (quality issues)

I went ahead and had the 30K mile service done on my car last week. I will definately be keeping it for a while.
I think you are right as far as comparing the performance in the 2K2 to the 2K1. Yes, comparing autos the 2K2 is quicker, but not by a huge margin. At least that is how it "felt".
I think you would be better off keeping your car. Pay it off, save some money, then sell it yourself. That way you could buy nearly anything you want. I wish I would have taken that advice in the past.

That's so true. I still have my '84 fullsize Bronco (which I forgot to list) as well as the Max. The Bronco is still a blast to go our tearin' up the mud in, and when I need to haul something or even tow. I had always been a truck person up until now, just for more of the mental thing of "I need a truck". This time I truly thought it over, and since I have the Bronco there's really no need...so I went for it and bought a car. Truth be told, I have been lusting after a Maxima since my good friend in Phoenix had his '98 black SE 5speed. Not really sure what took me so long to go "car", but I'm glad I did.

Just my 2 cents. I would keep the Max and mod it. I'm in the same situation as you are; however, I say to the wife that this will be my last car and end up changing it after a year or two. If your not satisfied like me I would sell it by owner. I would wait for the G35 or 350Z. No hard feelings on Nissan but this will be my last! A lease would sound good for us, who frequently changes cars often. Somehow we will never be satisfied with our rides, we spend more money on speed, style and negative equity!

We have a winner for the most money wasted on cars!
my local dealer just offered their whole inventory at employee pricing to certain people on their mailing list (lucky me). Man, i'm so tempted to trade in my auto 2k1 for that 6pd this weekend. Too bad it's leased... what's the penalty for ending the lease contract early?
