Will 275/40/17's rub?

I am considering a set of in 17x9's and would like to know if I mounted 275/40/17's will they rub? This size is very close to my stock diameter and will fit properly on a 9" wide rim and I think will look really wicked on a Max. Anybody know?
Thx

Why so big?....245/40s with a +38 offset will fill up the wheel wells nicely. Unless you don't care about raising your unsprung weight (or your rim is going to be lightweight) and it's ramifications then go for it. You will have to get an offset that keeps them from sticking out of the wheel wells. I believe our range is between +35mm to +40mm. If you are outside of that range it will adversely affect your suspension, wheel bearings, handling, etc....

What rim is that?

I want to keep my overall diameter as close to stock as possible. I could also go with 255/45/17 which is close also.

Why do people keep saying that?

y2kse's plight involves putting oversized tires on stock rims. He generally doesn't care about aftermarket rims.

y2kse, knows his stuff though. maybe ask him what he thinks of such a big size tire on the max. i personally would probably go with 18's and like an 18 x 8 size.

Why? Both 275/40/17 and 255/45/17 are designed to fit a 9" wide rim.
I am VERY aquainted with y2kse's points on tire size and rim width and I FULLY agree with them and he knows it! I do my home work before I install any mod, that's why I am asking these questions now.

I am not flaming! I like wide tires too... But have you ever ridden/driven a car the Max's size with tires that wide? It may feel a little heavy and sluggish... I would think a 255/45 r17 would be the widest I would go, 275 probably will rub at times when turning, and the 255 will still look like a fattie in the Max wheel well... I have a 02 and I would think even a 245 on an 18" would fill the well very nicely. 255 Will still make you look like a hoss! But I wouldn't go any wider... JMHO.

275s might rub. I'd be very sure about clearance.

Just the info I am looking for. Thanks. I am not worried so much about weight becuz the wheels will offset the extra tire heft, I expect it to be a wash. I just dig a wide stance/profile look and on the Max it'll surely kick a$$!

What is your wheel offset??? If your offset on your new wheels is a little lower (like a 38) it should make your wheels 'push to the corners' a little more than stock... I think stock GLE is 40 offset and SE (mine) is 45... If you could get a 38 or 35 offset wheel it will push the edges of your tires out a little so they are more flush with the flares of the fenders, giving a more sporty look. But you don't want too much lower offset, or like it was mentioned earlier they will mess with suspension or handling charteristics. Plus you don't wanna look like one of those fools in the mustangs or preludes with tires sticking out 6" like some lowrider on crack!

275 will rub even with a minor trim job...265 was recomened by turbo, I say get that or a 255 though you don't need that wide of a tire if your not boosted.
