Swirlmarks

Truthfully, there are many approaches to removing swirl marks. The most common is getting a polish such as 3M's Swirl Mark Remover or Meguiar's Swirl Mark Remover 2.0. Many people use Finesse It II or Scratch X to get rid of deeper swirls.
It also depends on how you intend to apply the product. I have swirls on my 2002 but I intend to attack those with 3M Swirl Mark Remover for Dark Colored Cars and a Porter Cable 7336 Orbital Polisher with a foam polishing pad. Some people do it by hand but it will take longer.

Its typically not that simple for swirl marks. If you want to do it right you'll need some specific swirl mark remover and a few hours as its tedious work. Go to www.autotopia-carport.com for more info.

My friend (a bimmer owner with no swirl marks) told me that a lot of swirl marks come from when you apply either wax or polish to your car.
The best way to apply polish or wax to your car is not in a circular motion but a horizontal left to right (or right to left) motion.
Not sure if he's completely right but one thing is for sure. He has
virtually NO swirl marks......but I on the other hand....do.

My car is less then 4 months old and i already see swirls
it was posted somewhere that the swirl marks are a result of the clear coatings put on the car
I went to the dealer and noticed that even those cars have swirl marks on them
But come on less then 4 months
Not from wax or polish because i haven't even done that for my car yet
about to soon
hopefully today
I read to be safe you should wax your car for 3 months i don't know something about the clear coating

This is getting interesting. I also have swirl marks & scratches on my hood. Mainly on the upper quandrant of the hood on the passenger side. Only visible under certain lighting conditions & angle. I've tried Scratch-X but I can't get them out. Nobody here has any idea how they got there ? Hmmm ?

As your all not surprised to hear, my 2k2 has/had swirl "type" marks on the hood. I used Meguiars Show Car Glaze (hand applied with terry cloth bonnet and removed with clean diaper from kids' closet) and it seemed to have a much more uniform look to it (I wouldn't say they completely went away), not to mention the deep black that resulted.
But the funny thing, when I applied the Meguiars High Tech Yellow Wax (good ol' #26) afterwards, the depth of the black went away a little. Maybe I should have washed the new bonnet first.
When I applied the Glaze, I used an "oval" motion, going with the lines in the car (from front to back, vs. side to side or circular). I was told that when I was growing up. Dad: "Son, you want to wax a black car....."
The Glaze has no wax, it is a polish. But just being on their website, I've found that they have a "New Car Polish", which basically sounds the same, with the only difference being that it requires "very little effort."
Cheers.

The best way to avoid swirel marks is to wax using a up and down motion rather then a "swirl" motion. Also when you wax make sure you use a brand new 100% white cotton towel. Another good way to avoid swirles is to not dry your car by hand, pour the water from the hose so it pushes 95% of the water off and then you are all set.
