Does an 02 need a new y-pipe?

Is this a stupid Question? Does an 02 need a new y-pipe?
I was under the car yesterday at my buddy's shop putting on the sway bar from my 99, I've only had the car 2 weeks. I checked out the plumbing from the precats on. (It looks like the stock y-pipe bolts to the precats) I must say the design of this pipe looks much better than the 99 or the 96 I had.
The pipe from the rear bank comes down and bends to the front of the car then it does a smooth 180 travels a short distance where it joins the pipe that comes underneath it from the front bank.It appears that the series of bends to the rear pipe makes the exhaust equal lengths to the Y and they join in the same direction.
Stillen says that the new design will be a Headers and Race Pipe combo. Now unless there is an increase in the diameter of the pipe I am not sure the stock Y is a bad design. If the Headers can be made with longer ends to eliminate the precats and connecting them to the stock Y. This could be a big money saver while being an easier install.
Has any one looked at the 02 pipe with more exhaust experience than me? I'm by no means an expert but I know the main problem in the pre 02's was the bad angle the two pipes came together.

Only 1 response is this really a stupid question?
Has anyone looked at the stock 02 y-pipe?
Just trying to keep this thread up front for another day. I would love some input on this.
