Playin with an S4 (long)
Playin with an S4 (long)
Well, I was on my way back from NY this past weekend. Just chillin doin like 75-80 in 6th in the fast lane. All of the sudden I see an S4 coming up on my *** pretty damn fast. I look at my friend in the passenger seat and say I think this guy in the S4 wants to play.. He answers, he just went into the slow lane, cuz there was a car in the middle. So I look over and right when he gets to my rear bumper I dump into 4th and floor it. I started to walk him to about 110 and slowed. He had 3 people in the car I had two. I was shocked by this, thought I was gonna get smoked. So I said to myself he probably didnt floor it or something. He now gets in behind me after I slow to about 65-70. He was pretty much on me, so I decided to try again and see whats up. So I dump into 4th again and floor it. And to my surprise, I started to walk him again up to about 110, by about 3-4 car lengths. I could not believe this and neither could my friend.... I tried it one more time and again walked him again.... Then the highway split and he went the other way, he did go flying by me, so I think he was trying.. He must have been ****ed... I would have been.
That shouldn't come as a surprise...
You're packing 255 hp to his 250 hp, and you're FWD, he's AWD.
Considering the parasitic loss from the AWD system, and your hp advantage, I'd say it's plausible.
Drivers just don't consider a Max to be a fast car, until they get beat and are left scratching their heads
The ultimate sleeper: 2k2 GXE, bone-stock exterior, Stillen SC, stock exhaust... think of all the fun you can have on the highway.

nice race!!
yep, once you're already rolling and on a straight all AWD systems do is add weight and keeping sucking horsepower away from the wheels (25% loss on an AWD manual car, well over 30% on an auto!)
This is why I was able to stay with a stock WRX from 30-80 once, and it's the same reason you were able to pull on the S4.
Modded is a different story though. One chip to get them to 320 HP I think

you should beable to pull on an S4 auto from a roll as long as they are stock.

Wrong Steve, the actual power loss is only 12-17%-->

I posted a link to this a long time ago, search on my user name and you can find it.
If it was an auto S4 then a 6 spd Max would walk it on the high end. If it was a 6 spd, then it would be the other way around. Another problem we 6 spd Audi drivers have is laziness. Most often, we never shift out of 6th gear even when running with other traffic. If he did, he most likely would've walked away from the Max.

But how do you establish intent to race? If the other driver hangs with you to 100 mph, is that a race?
Or, if someone is tailgrabbing your *** on the highway, and you drop a gear and open up a couple of car-lengths, then move over a lane after proving your point, and the other driver roars past and hits his hazard lights, is that a race? And if so, who wins???
I've seen drivers in both situations stating that they "dusted" the other car on their respective forums...
When does the madness stop???

Well stated. I think this part of the equation gets downplayed way too much.

Because when you do it three times in a row, I think you pretty much would call it a race... Especially when he looks at you and nods.....

ahh..
well.. maybe he was. I dont doubt your car is faster.. if someone comes up on my bumper while I'm the fast lane, I'll open up until I can find a spot back in slower traffic.
Nothing personal, I just see all these stories when what I see in my driving 90% of the time is someone just in a hurry (albeit dangerous and they are being asses in traffic - like passing in the far right lane) and they pickup someone wanting to race.
no doubt about it.. the 6sp is a monster. well, until the next gen cars start hitting the road. Seems like everything will have 250-300hp soon.

I was at Carslbad on Saturday. The Audi club of So Cal was there. They had 2 S4's one was heavily modded, and a stock one. Both were manual trans.... The stock one layed down a 14.9 as his best time, and the modded one was in the high 13's..... Oh, and I was looking at their comments, on their board, and someone mentioned the Maximas. One guy said , he rented on on vacation, and couldnt wait to get back to his car. I looked at his profile, and he has an A4 ...
.... I didnt want to start a flame war between both boards, but those guys were barely running mid 15's with bypass vales, and all kinds of garb.., on Saturday....

I was playing with one last Friday nite at the drags, he has a Short shifter, and a chip. He was running anywhere from a best of 14.59 to a string of 15.0's. He loved my Max tho' said he was thinking of trading in his Audi. His friend had a spec V and was running 15.2's all nite long, he even took the audi a couple of times
