Goodbye Onyx...
Goodbye Onyx...
Well, after 15 months of ownership, six trips to Nissan Service for random issues, and a car note that I really don't like, I have decided that it's time to call it quits on my Maxima. The car has gradually lost its appeal with each visit to Nissan Service.
Tomorrow afternoon I will be selling it to Sheehy Nissan in Manassas, VA. They offered me $15,800 for it. I think I may take it by CarMax before turning it in to see what they offer.
I don't have any plans to buy another car any time soon. I'll just wheel along in my 2K2 Silver Taurus aka The Gray Whale (company car) until I:
A. Find another job, forcing me to get rid of The Whale
B. A car maker introduces a car I really like (and can afford).
My experience with my Maxima has definitely changed my perspective on Nissan cars. I expected more from what Nissan deems its "flagship". For near $30K I think I'm justified. I won't buy another Nissan product again.
I have gotten a lot of great info from this board. Keep it up! I hope your experiences are better than mine.
In case you're wondering what the nature of the visits were:
1. Creaking front window pillar and misaligned passenger headlight shortly after purchase
2. Follow-up visit about window pillar after Nissan Service made no attempt to fix it. Had to present them with TSB on this issue.
3. Bad sunroof motor, correction to even more misaligned headlight after initial visit and warped rotors.
4. Warped rotors again
5. Passenger window that would not go up when using passenger window button
6. Buttons on Bose stereo stopped working.

sad...
I guess Nissan would rather sour you (your family and people who you have influence with) to Nissans over a few *TINY* warranty issues.
My biggest problems with Nissan right now are a $9 idler pulley on my on my PF and a $7 relay on my max. Just decided to buy these things myself. Not because the product is bad, I think the car is great and its of better than average build quality.. I just cant stand dealing with service.. I cant stand them doing more damage than repair. And being condescending the whole time.
freaky math on their part..

That is why I have resorted to doing TSBs myself....less stress on my part. More money yes...but my time and patience is worth money also.

That's it for both of them. I'm a happy camper.
