this poll is so far from "scientific" it's silly. So, 31% say "yes." Ok....that means nothing unless we know what the percentage of people with STOCK airboxes who have blown their MAFs is. Then take the difference of the two amounts and there is the actual percentage (roughly) that might be caused by the aftermarket intake.

Installed Injen...car died

Posted this in another thread as well...

2002 Maxima w/48K
I have been using a K&N for 20K, no issues.
I installed an Injen "CAI" last Thursday night, being very careful with the MAF assembly. Test drove, no problem, idle, no problem. 40 minutes into my drive to work, RPMs dropped and the car died, woulnd't restart. Dealer says it's the MAF and unrelated to the intake, just coincidence. I called around and have a 50/50 split on dealers sayng the intake is or is not the cause. They are also charging me $600 for the new MAF...

Sounds like me except I'm mod'ed with a frankencar and berk - My old MAF is on it's way to the "spare" box in the trunk and the new one's going in this weekend. 101K - 80K with pop charger.

New to the forum. The first time I cleaned my stillen intake for my 02 max, I oversprayed it like a fool. The car would start and then stall out. Also forgot to mention the check engine came on. That was around 30k. I took it to my mechanic the next day and he simply took the senor out, sprayed it w/Throttle body cleaner and the problem was fixed. My max now has 170k and I never had a probably with the intake again.

What shocks me is no one else had there MAF blow with the Injen intake, Mine blew about 7k after I installed it. I bought a new MAF from Dave Burrnet at south point and did not install it till my Berk intake W/APEXi filter got here. Now my car runs great, and so far no MAF problems.

i've read of MAF failurs associated with pretty much every intake setup available. it's really luck of the draw and care during installation/maintenance.

Have an 02 Maxima SE. Put on Frankencar w/ Apexi dry filter at about 50,000 mi. MAF blew at about 63,000 mi. MAF was replaced under warranty (re-installed stock set-up before I took it to dealer). This was only about 3 mons. ago so I hope the newer version MAF was installed. However I have been reluctant to re- install the F/C setup again.

air filter and sensors

I replaced the air filter of my 2003 Maxima when I first bought it two years ago.. I had no MAF problems at that time. I just found this website today after looking for the obd code 1456. I found the answer on justask.com. I am still looking for the obd codes for Maxima 2003

they do screw your MAF, because the cheap air filters on Ebay have a alot of oil sprayed on them, and when you drive this oil travels to your MAF and fks arround with the sensor

Well my MAF went out after I installed K&N Panel Filter right out of the box.

But when I got the new MAF I still had the Panel Filter in and well it never went bad like the original one did so I guess I'm not sure how to answer this.

I used a WalMart's FRAM brand, which led me to purchasing of a new MAF sensor. Not sure about cause/effect, though
