Steering stops on SE and GLE

I posted this in the previous thread on the subject last night but there have been no further comments so perhaps no one has seen it.
I went to my dealership yesterday to get an oil change. My service advisor is a performance guy so we have developed a good relationship and he goes out of his way to help me. I decided to ask him about those steering stops on the SE and GLE. I was the first one to bring up the question and he didn't know but he said he'd do some research and ask the service guys what they thought or knew. When he came back he had a page out of a parts list manual and showed me the steering rack for the GXE was different than the one for the SE and GLE. That's why there are no stops on the GXE. It was his opinion that removing the stops would result in premature failure of the steering rack.

Are you refering to the bump stops? If so, several people here have removed them without problems. Most of these people have aftermarket suspension.

What's strange is that the turning radius on the 2k2 SE is A LOT better than the turning radius on the 2k SE. Same tires and rims and I would think they would have the same steering components as well.

Well...the guy advised there would be premature steering rack problems...he didn't say immediate problems. This thing has got to be big bucks if it goes out.

The response I got from a technician at South Point Nissan was that those stops were there for the air bag system and that they shouldn't be removed. I'm not sure I believed his story completly I just kindly nodded and smiled then left the service area.
