Have $1600.00 for performance mods, what would you buy?

I have managed to get my wife to give me approval for some toys for my Max. I have 1500.00 that I can spend on any mods I want. I already have an intake, and was thinking of doing the tranny along with an UD.

What do you guys think.

Thanks

Screw the Mods, where did you get that CAI ! It looks awesome, ! Go get an exhaust, cat back, and save the rest for when the Y pipe and headers come out ....

The CAI is my own creation. I am glad you like it. So you wouldn't get Don's VB mod, torgue converter, trans cooler, and the UD?

VB Mod.. Dont believe in it personally. A VB mod blew 2 Trannies for me in my Mustang..... UPD...Trans cooler..YES, YES for sure.... Exhaust next for sure, and believe me Y pipe and header will be the mod we are ALL waiting for !... Damn, can you make me an intake like that ! Nice to see another AUTO guy.... dont go screwing up an expensive Tranny. Just do a search and see all the problems guys have with that MOD....

It is HIGHLY recommended that if you go with the VB mod that you get a trans cooler, very cheap. On the other hand, I don't know of anyone blowing their trannies with don's VB mod installed. In fact it's supposed to prolong the life of your tranny by reducing the slip in the wet clutches and thus reducing wear.

On the other hand. Dollar for dollar, the best mod that you can get yourself is NEW TIRES. This will help you accelerate, handle, and brake better more than anything else you could add!

I think you did the intake right! Plenty of space where you ran it. As far as the VB mod this is the only area where Kloogy and I differ. When done properly not only will fell better but should improve life as long AS NO OTHER problems pre-exsist. For sure a cooler should be added. I really think that headers/y-pipe/exhaust will add approx 25/30 fwhp when the become available. (let us know ASAP emax). The trouble is getting a vb (at least from Don) as I have been waiting for over 6 weeks dues to unseen problems with my 02 vb.

Exhaust is cool, but the stock exhaust is fine (good enough for a GT-R, right?), so it'd be a waste to get a new one.

I'd go:

vb mod $450
tranny cooler $50
FSTB $70
RSB $250
springs $200
KYBs $450

Don't spend it all on one mod, get the most out of it.

this is what i think:

buy something that is expensive. how many times are you going to have 1600 to spend at once? all the other mods, like the ones Tanmann9 listed are affordable and you can pick those up every month or every other month; whatever your budget can handle. why not buy something that you NORMALLY would NOT be able to buy? ya know?

at this very moment, i would buy the JIC coilovers. theyre going for around 1500-1600 but i suggest you email cobymoby (www.berktuning.com) and buy them from him. hint hint; great price. the coilovers are fully adjustable!! the maxima looks a BILLION times better when its dropped. im not talking about ghett0 drop either, even 2" would be AMAZING. the coilovers will last you a looooooooooooong time and all the other mods are fairly.. "cheap."

*shrug*

have fun with your money!

Coilovers are a great deal, but that is not a worthwhile mod, unless youre auto-crossing !

if a consumer is satisfied with their purchase. 100% satisfied. it IS worthwhile.

its worthwhile for me because i would get a new suspension that is fully adjustable (i can adjust to car the whatever HEIGHT i desire AND adjust the ride to whatever suits my a$$, or my gf's a$$!! ). i ALSO get the performance aspect out of it, as i wouldnt get out of an air suspension (even though im fighting off the urge to get one ). simply using a switch to adjust the height is extremely tempting for such a non-mechanically inclined person as myself, hahaha.

but yeah, some people wear versace and others wear gap. ya cant say that versace is only for the prom while gap is for everyday wear can ya?

Jderry3: Trust me go with some good rubber, a stock car with good tires will outhandle a car with modified suspension and stock tires. Very boring mod, and not pretty but will make the most difference

Kloogy: LOL! new nickname!

asu174: Thanks, they're rims 17" rims off a G35 sport, I cannot reveal my sources or my cost but ask around

lcf: Sorry it's not that simple, you still need basic mechanical knowledge and a good understanding of auto dynamics and handling to properly adjust a coilover system. IE.. you have to jack up the car and get dirty!
