Almost lost my thumb making a Home Depot valence
Almost lost my thumb making a Home Depot valence
I came across the ooglie Home Depot valence installation page (using mesh gutter cover stuff) and I figured it didn't look so hard so I'd give it a shot.
After realizing that without some sort of rubber surround, it was going to destroy my bumper and look like hell, I got frustrated and decided to throw my hours of work in the garbage.
As I threw the piece in the garbage, I slammed it in a downward motion. Well, the piece inadvertently hit the lip of the can and the crease betwen my thumb and my index finger went sliding down the razor-sharp, barbed-wire-esque edge.
The cut was about an inch long and really deep, since it is on the crease I couldn't get it stiched. So I gauzed the hell out of it and watched The Real World for the rest of the afternoon.
Anyhow, have any of you had any luck with this type of valence? Is there any way to put some sort of surround around the valence so it doesn't look like crap? I can't see myself dropping $80 for a piece of mesh.

I thought the installation was pretty easy. You just need to take off those plastic things that are holding the splash guard up. Then you pull the splash guard back and insert the mesh grill up into the lower valance. Then you just zip tie it to the four posts in the lower valance. Hope that helps.

Just finished mine. Looks great! I use white zip tipes because I have a white car. You can't even see them. I am REALLY happy with the results. DON'T TRY TO MOUNT IT ON THE FRONT SIDE. IT LOOKS LIKE CRAP.

No but really I hope your finger is ok. How long did the whole thing take you, without the cutting your finger part?
