I thought the Injen CAI was for the 2K2 only. Do they make one or are they planning to make one for the 2K/2K1?

Y2Kse, have you seen a picture of it yet, and are they sure it wont require drilling ?

The only problem I have with this, is there are no pictures and no dyno!

I'll call Injen on Tuesday. They're located within striking distance of me. If they do, in fact, make a CAI for the 2K/2K1 Maxima, I'll see if I can get some more info on it. If necessary, I'll go to Injen and check it out for myself.

Gnus . . .

I spoke to Stacy at Injen. She's going to send me a picture of the 5th Gen Maxima CAI via snail mail. As soon as I receive it, I'll scan it. Then I'll let you know and somebody can host the jpg.

Stay tuned . . .

UPDATE

I spoke to Phillip in Tech Support. He said he'd e-mail me pics of all of the Injen CAIs for Maximas by no later than tomorrow. He also said that none of the Injen CAIs require cutting a hole in the fender and that they've all been submitted for C.A.R.B. approval.

OK. I've got pics of the 4th Gen CAI and the 2K2 CAI. I wasn't able to get a picture of the 2K/2K1 CAI. But the CAI for the 2K/2K1 has a design and location similar to the 4th Gen and the 2K2.

If someone wants to host them, send me an e-mail at bld522@yahoo.com and I'll send them along. I've got two pics and they're about 240K each.

Very Very Nice. I think that is the best looking intake I have seen. I wonder if they make one with blue trim. Would look sweet on mine.

Not yet it isn't, my friend. The Injen Maxima CAIs have been submitted for C.A.R.B. approval, but Executive Order (EO) numbers have not yet been issued. Until that happens, they are not 50 state legal.

FYI, here's the definition of an Executive Order Number:

Exempted parts are add-on or modified parts that have undergone an ARB engineering evaluation. If the part or modification is shown to not increase vehicle emissions, it is granted an exemption to emission control system anti-tampering laws. This exemption is called an Executive Order (EO) and allows the modification to be installed on specific emission controlled vehicles. Every Executive Order part or modification has an assigned number that can be verified by Smog Check stations, BAR Referee stations, or by the ARB.

Agreed, lcf. Still, it's only a matter of time before somebody bites off on one of these intakes. After all, the Injen CAI is the only CAI currently available for Nissan Maximas that doesn't require cutting a hole in the fender. It's also the only CAI (or HAI for that matter) that's been submitted for C.A.R.B. approval. And it's not THAT much more expensive than a PR CAI.

Confirming that you do NOT need to dril a hole for this intake? Does it just have a filter on the end of the tube that sticks down near the bottom of the engine bay?

I only heard one post say this out of the whole thread. I was just confirming that this was the truth and not just a mis-stated fact. I'm sure others had the same question.

As has been stated, there are no holes required. And I'm not sure how everything bolts up. But when I talked to the tech at Injen, he said that the filter sits in front of the transmission. He also said that the filter is "small" . . . whatever that means.

I know you weren't jumping down my back, but it was a fair question. And nowhere in the pic does it show that no holes need to be drilled. One could draw a conclusion to this by hoping that the intake just drops straight down (which it apparently does...now I know). I was just asking.

Easy does it, folks. This just isn't a big enough deal to get excited about.

I'm still waiting for someone to host the installation instructions. Then you'll be able to see for yourself PRECISELY how the Injen CAI fits in the engine bay. If somebody wants to host the instructions (4 pages in all totaling about 2.7MB), drop me an e-mail at bld522@yahoo.com.

BTW, the intake is really sweet. Whether it's worth $280.00 is another matter, however.
