2k1 steering wheel radio control on 2k model

Hello All,

I was just wondering if anyone has successfully installed an OEM 2K1 steering wheel radio control on a 2K before. I have searched on all the threads and someone mentioned that they did this using a 2001 Pathfinder radio control module but I am not sure if they did it correctly. The big question is whether or not the wiring harness is there on a 2000 model so that you can buy a control unit and just plug in and it will control the OEM (not bose)radio system. Thank you in advance for your replies.

I researched this a while back. Findings were that the harness was not there, don't remember if the head unit was different or not too. I spoke with DaveB and he said too expensive and not worth the trouble (As much as I would LOVE to have it - someone at Nissan obviously realized after driving the car for a year us NORMAL size people can't reach the buttons without a far reach.)

The headunit actually is different. Because the 2k1 one has a connector for the steering wheel controls.

That brings up another question...is there any way to install an aftermarket deck, but retain the use of the steering wheel mounted controls? (on a 2K2) Has anyone looked into that before?

I was looking at part numbers and about halfway through the 2000 model lineup (Around 6/2000 or 7/2000), the headunit changed to the 2001 year model (Makes sense since the 2001s come out in the summer anymore!)

As for keeping the steering controls with the aftermarket radio, I know there's been plenty of discussions about this - it can be done. Do some searching in the forum and you'll find the part that some use (I'm sure they're probably a compatible unit on www.crutchfield.com as well.)
