Got my first kill!

I have a buddy that has a 740IL with a nice exhaust. We lined it up a couple of times just screwing around. From a stop or slow roll, it was no competion. Now from highway speeds, his car is a beast. From 60 I dropped down into 4th and he was able to pull away a little until I started to make up the difference.

I am still new to driving a standard so not quite sure what gear to downshift into at higher speeds.

Thanks for any advice.

Nathan

Nice kill. Yeah 740i's aren't the quickest from a stop but they haul from a roll.

From 60 mph downshift to 3rd. You should be able to take that all the way up to the mid-90's or so (I forget where it tops out).

4th?!! No, no, no senor. 3rd. The lower the better. Run it up to redline and then go to 4th.

i might be wrong but isnt the gearing different on the 5 speed and 6 speed? say a 5 speed in 3rd redlines in the 90's, i dont think 3rd tops out that high on the 6 speed... when i drop to 4th at 80 i think it puts it at around 4500 which is a good spot.
