2k2 Engine Seizure

I have a 2k2 6 spd. I'm an aggressive driver, but never "race". So anyway, I had some douche bag riding my *** in a Camry yesterday...traffic opened up and he pulled out in the left lane and tried to pass. I was in 2nd and floored it. My Franken intake roared, I was ready to shift to 3rd, then the engine sputtered and almost shut off!!!

I looked down in amazement...I was only at ~6000 rpm when it happened. Thankfully, the engine came back to life. I punched it again and dusted Mr. Camry. Everything seems fine now, but the obvious question is WTF?

Sounds like you were over 6,000 rpm...I mean actually to the point of hitting the rev limiter which will cause what you describe if you are about to over-rev in a gear...

no... he 'floored' it

you need the service bulletin for the stopper under your gas pedal. You have a 'drive by wire' throttle not an actual cable, you can go past the limit that the ECU understands and you go into safe mode.

easy fix.. call the dealer, they know all about it

I thought the TSB was more related to the accelerator getting stuck (pushed past) the rubber stop.

To me it sounds more like they went past the rev limiter. Should be easy enough to reproduce. Just find some deserted road and floor it in 1st (or 2nd) and see if you experience the same "seizure".

no, not stuck

its actually going out of range of the ECU. it doesnt understand 101% throttle the 'safety issue' in the recall is the loss of power steering and brakes when you go into safe mode or the car dies..

That's the same thing my car does, the dealer won't fix it, cause the vin doesn't come up in the recall, I have learned to live with it tho'.

The dealer told me that there are 3 different part #'s for the pedal stops, and he did not know which one to put in, because the recall lists what part #'s go with what. That's what he would not do it.
