Insuring your HID conversion..

Just had a long talk with my agent (USAA). For about $6 extra per 6 months, you can change your car to 'customized' and cover anything you want. The $6 I was quoted would have covered 1500 on the HIDs.. However, when he tried to change my policy, it wouldnt change.. Turns out that in AR and many other states, you have automatic coverage for any item PERMANANTLY attached to the car. I dont have to do a thing to be covered. schweeeet. TX does require a 'customized' note on the policy. Of course, they want receipts..

what state you are in and the permanently attached is the key. I know lots of people who have been declined claims on electonics inside the car. Obviously most stereo equipment is not considered permanently installed, like amps, dsps and sub boxes.

If we weld the amps and bolt the sub to the trunk, do they count as "permanently installed"?

Thanks for the information though. I'm going to insure all of my equipment. The problem is, they require receipts and serial numbers. I'd have to unbolt my amps and yank out my stereo to get the serial numbers.

I'm very glad I have USAA also. They said the exact same thing to me that I just need reciepts and pictures. Too bad I don't have one or two of the reciepts.

Great idea to have them insured. In the case where you add HID's to your 00, 0r 01 would you need to add additional coverage for them?

How does that work if you got them for a "deal". Will they replace or give you the "deal" money as a claim? I understand it will vary from company to company.

well...

you would bring them a quote to replace.. $1500.. they would ask you for proof of purchase (but not likely as you will have called and they will make note of the HIDs on your record). Wont matter what you paid.
