I want an exhaust upgrade but want to keep the stealth

hey fellas,

i'm want to upgrade my factory muffler but i want the stealth that the factory has. I'm lookin for a little HP gain but i dont want everyone to hear me drivin down the street..Speed and Stealth is my motto!! I dont want to spend the money on the cat-back so an muffler or an axl-back would work nice. any suggestions on what i brand i should get??

thanks in advance!

I see you already have a Y-pipe. Under the circumstances, ANY muffler besides your stock muffler is going to give you away. A better idea would be to install wider diameter piping while keeping your OEM muffler. That'll give you a little more hp and still keep you in stealth mode.

My suggestion would be to purchase a Cattman SS B-pipe instead of a muffler. The B-pipe sells for $250.00.

If you have a Y pipe, leave it alone. the Y pipe makes everything louder. If you are looking for cosmetic changes, get a new tip.

RayRey21 said he was looking for both stealth and performance. And while your statement is true, asu174, I don't think installing a B-pipe would add that much more noise provided he keeps his OEM muffler.

What I can tell you for a fact is that a Y-pipe, B-pipe and OEM Muffler is a full-stealth, awesome-sounding, awesome-performing combination. How do I know? Look at my sig.

thanks for the responses...

wider piping from the cat-back up to the muffler i assume....hmm sounds like a plan. i love the stealth of the maxima but an HP increase and not sacrificing that would be sweet. what is the diameter of the OEM piping now??

thanks

Maybe I am retarted, but can't he just have a custome catback built and keep the stock muffler? Won't that cost much less than the B pipe? And I am assuming when you say "B Pipe" you mean the STillen one/other prefab one, right? Usually you call it a catback.....

The advantage of the Cattman mid-pipe (to paraphrase Shakespeare, "a B-pipe by any other name would smell as sweet") is that it contains a resonator, it's TIG welded, it's mandrel-bent, and it's constructed of Stainless Steel. You can get a resonator at a local muffler shop and you might even find a shop with a mandrel bender if you search around. But you're probably not going to get stainless steel and TIG welds. When you add all that up, it may be worth Cattman's asking price of $275.00. On the other hand, Cattman's rear section is as insanely overpriced as every other name-brand rear section on the market (e.g., Stillen, HKS, etc.), so I'd leave it alone entirely.

For more info on the Cattman mid-pipe (AKA B-pipe), go to:

Absolutely, asu174. I can also get a crush-bent B-pipe built for $75.00. But then I'd have MIG welds and no resonator and aluminized steel. And that might be OK for some. But for others, the idea of TIG welding and stainless steel and built-in resonators and mandrel bends are important. And I'll flat out guarantee you that you can't get that done for $75.00 . . . assuming you can get it done at all.

touche.....

My whole system with 24" glass pack resonator, muffler install, and labor was in the vicinity of $250. It's loud. But livable.

So if you are happy with your muffler, then the $250 for the thingy that Y2KSE is talking about will probably be good for you.
