They don't always equal the 1/4 mile time of the maxima. Sometimes the acura is faster or slower and that depends on alot of factors as you are very aware of. We have gotten into several arguements about this before as you know but I am not going to get into it I will tell you though...I would love to see a 02' Maxima auto go against a TL-S from 0- top speed and see who would pull out. I don't want you now to go into why you would think a Maxima would win this I just want you to ponder this idea in your mind and maybe we can find two people to try this out.

2-3 on the Acura are a good bit shorter than on the Maxima. After the Acura shifts up to 3rd on a 1/4 mile run the shorter gear will let it accelerate harder and "catch up" to the Max and also get a slightly higher trap speed whereas the Maxima is sorta bogging in 3rd. The gearing on the Maxima isn't optimized for the 1/4 mile at all, whereas on the Acura's it is, yet the Acura still isn't any faster than the Max - but just through the 1/4 mile.

After the 1/4 mile the Maxima's taller 3rd will come into play and it'll pull trains on the Acura after 110. And if the Acura driver doesn't know his car from a roll it'll get stuck in 4th prematurely on the highway like what probably happened here. Or maybe he forgot to turn off VSA. Or maybe he forgot to turn off TCS.

Validity: It's just a simulation, but it makes sense to me. Both cars have identical drag coefficients and similar horsepower but the Maxima has better high-speed gearing than the Acura and also about 250lb less weight to pull.

God, if we asked two people to do this not only would they have to risk their own lives, but whoever lost would be arguing about tail winds, fuel loads, driver weight, and tire pressures, and no resolution would ever come of it

The simulation at least keeps the playing field level, but in the real-world of course, "your mileage may vary"

I'm pretty sure the 2k2 auto ratios are the same as the 00-01 models (which is what I posted), but I'm not sure, so don't quote me on that. Everything else should be accurate though.

 

According to CarTest2000, if an Acura CL-S is stuck in 4th gear at 80 mph, I could beat it to 100 mph by over 2 seconds in my slow-azz (and now deceased) Accord V6 where I can still downshift to 3rd.

 

Excuse me I'm modded! Headers & CAI provide one hell of a boost in 4th!

This is exactly my point. I wouldn't have called BS on 2 cars. But I called it on 3-4. Why is it you're making such a big deal out of it? 3-4 cars is a lot to put on a car that has nearly identical performance despite the gazillion variables in drag racing. I offered an explanation of why. That's the only way I see it happening. You've harped on the idiot proof tranny several times now. The Acura tranny is no more idiot proof than any other auto tranny and it sure the hell isn't going to explain this race at speeds below 90mph.

 

Maybe the CL-S driver was a fat guy and nice95GLE is skinny.
Maybe the CL-S driver had a full load of fuel and 95GLE was on fumes.
Maybe the CL-S driver also had a passenger and 95GLE didn't know that.
Maybe the CL-S driver was stupid and had 87 in the tank and 95GLE had 93.
Maybe the CL-S' tire pressures were all out of whack and it slowed him down.
Maybe the CL-S had groceries or a small system in the trunk.
Maybe the CL-S had a broken variable intake actuator and didn't even know it was broken and never got it fixed.
The aforementioned idiot-proofed tranny not letting him grab 3rd...

2 cars? 3 cars? 4 cars? 20 cars? Geez, what difference does it make. A loss is still a loss, and your unfallable track results don't always translate to results on the streets. There are too many variables, and one or a combination of those could easily make the difference of a car or two. Since you know and understand that, why are you calling BS on nice95GLE for pulling one more car on this CL-S than he should have according to you?

well i know so chief there is a guy who ownes a 01 cl-s and he has comp tech headers and a cai and a few other mods and he could only shell out a 14.4 and his car was 31k so that gives me what 6k to spend on mods i think i could beat a 14.4 with 6k to spend plus i think a 14.4 is what of the best auto cl-s times i have seen but maybe i'm wrong

The reason I like going after TL-S/CL-Ses is because they're so close competeively. 4 door sports sedan with a high power V6. Fact is, whoever wins a race between a Maxima and a TL-S/CL-S, it should be very close. Close races leave it all up to the driver.

I've raced a CLS in Manhattan, and I made him trash his car. He was so intent on beating my that he took a risk he should not have.

Just the other day, I TL-S blasted by me. I was like OK, let me join in the fun. I chase him down. Rather than race him, I stick to his tail, he downshifts and jumps ahead a half a car lentgh, I'm in 3rd and accelerate. The car length slowly gets bigger, but traffic slows him down, we do it again, he pulls slowly. I'm thinking, I should be with this guy, but then I realized, I had a passenger, he did not. Anyway, not really a race but some good fun.

He doesn't have a TL-S. He's a poser that drives a Cavalier while his mom drives a TL-P. The reason he always ask us to race him is because hardly anyone here is located in Denver, so he thinks no one will race him in his Cavalier.

What is so hard to believe that I have a TL-S? I don't have to show any of you any pics.

Actually I love the 2K2 Maxima SE. It is a better overall value than the TL-S. I almost bought one, but I decided to lease a TL-S because the residual is thousands better and the interior and seats are better too. When my lease is up I can by the car and then sell it the next day and make an easy $1000 - $2500 or so too.

I think there are a bunch of liars out there that like to tell stories like children. I also have a 91 Stealth RT/TT. I will CRUSH any of your 2K2 SE's in that. I have already walked Maximas by over 8 cars lengths to 80mph from a dead stop. If any of you has the ***** come meet me in Denver. I am an Engineer at Time Warner Telecom. PM or e-mail me. I'll step up and race anyone here. I'll bring the TL-S AND my Stealth. Also ask Jeff Lucius (that is also his user name at 3SI) over at 3SI. He knows me personally and has seen both of my cars and knows exactly who I am.

BTW, I took out a CL-S yesterday with my fiancee's 4th generation Maxima (note: 190 hp). The loser got ticked off and drove in the turning lane to catch up to me (because he couldn't keep up and got stuck behind traffic).
