car got keyed up

i had my car parked in the church parking lot and when i get back i notice a fatass scratch (actually a couple of them, pretty damn long too) on the passenger's side front door. this is something that cannot be remedied by a little touch up paint. from 2 feet away, you can tell there is a slight dent where the scratches are. btw the church is in eastchester, pretty quiet suburban town. who the hell did this!! damn i wish i find the guy who did this quick. i just wanted to tell you guys to watch for your car all the time. anyone know how much it would cost to cover the scratches up? how about a paint job for the whole car (thinking ahead for the future)?? keep an eye on your cars fellas. PEACE
I have a dent (with a scratch, naturally), and have been quoted $300 to repaint the entire back fender... (you sorta have to sand and paint the entire door if you don't want the paint job to be obvious..)
I'm all for laws that would cane violaters... like in Singapore.. :-)
PS.. painting the whole car would cost a butload... I wouldn't be surprised if it were >$1,000... (quality job, of course) Remember, it has to be completely sanded down, cleaned and re-painted..

damn. caning would rock. wouldnt have to worry about punks keying up cars anymore. $300 damn too much for me. i think ill wait for summer of 2002 to repaint the whole car a totally different color. the black is super sweet, the hottest color in my opinion, but so hard to maintain. thanks for the reply. peace
keyed scratches
I didn't repair the 3ft long scratch when my 3rd gen (93gxe) got keyed a couple of years ago... (body shop said several hundred dollars). However, he did recommend that I got some kind of touch-up paint and fill the scratch since it went to bare metal, to at least keep it from rusting. I did that, and it looked just as crappy, but it kept it from rusting for, like 2 years before I got rid of it. Really crappy that it happens, though. Bunch of savages out there.

Re: Re: keyed scratches
I've given it much thought (i live in a large city, and my other car has been keyed EVERYWHERE, but my Max is in a garage :-) , and then only effective way to prevent the problem would be..
#1> capital punishment for keying :-) (go BUSH)
#2> or more realistically, someone will eventually key the car of some loony, who will in turn
- Pull out a gun and kill them on the spot
- Stalk them for a few days, then kill them
- Kill their family, microwave their cat, eat all their mayonaise, and then kill them
(you see the trend here?)
Basically, once something like this happens [eventually, it has to.. right?], the media attention it gets will make some punk out there think twice before keying another car..
Just my thoery.. i shall shut up now..

tomz17, hey if i had a gun and found the guy who did it, let me tell you, i'd be that loony! hahaha LOL. about valet parking .. i knew some guys who did valet parking part time and this is what they do. they park for about 30 minutes until everybody makes their way in the party. after all the patrons are in the party, they get high as hell, chill for about an hour, get the keys to the hottest cars in the lot, drive the **** out of em and return em. im sure there are responsible valets out there, but i for one wouldnt take the risk.
Ya... with my luck.. my Max WOULD be the HOT ride at the party... no doubt..

No... It would NOT be covered under warrenty.. IN fact, I wouldn't bring it up with the dealer, cuz in case of corrosion later on, they might bother you about that scratch !!!
(you have 10 year corrosion warrenty... that is void after an accident.... dunno if scratches count..)
I would call your insurance company... and provided that you have a low comprehensible deductible, you might be able to do it for much less than $300... (depends on the quality of your insurance company, tho.. they MIGHT just give you $300 worth of RUN AROUND :-)

yo, really sorry to hear about your keying though. That's like one of my worst fears. I think when I renew my insurance, I'm dropping the deductible to $250.... easier to scrape up $250 than $500 in the event some ahole goes nuts on my baby.
at least..
You didnt purpously park as far away as you can from any cars in a parking lot, only to come out an hour later and find some ******* ran into the back of your car and left. 1 week after I got my max there was a gash in the back bumper.. the rear licence plate (had my dealers name on it, temp plate still in window) was laying smashed on the ground. GRRR we should have a group buy on security camera's
