Hello everyone. i am hoping that someone with a little more mechanical knowledge can help me out with this one...basically, my car (2002 GLE) is making a whining noise under throttle (in park and in drive) and someone told me that something may be wrong with the throttle body. my question is, what is a throttle body, where is it, and how do i check if there is something wrong with it? is it something that i can know by visually inspecting it? thanx for any advice you guys can give. cheers.

i cant say i have ever heard a throttle body whine, but its easy to fine. if you find your airbox where the air filter sits, follow the hose which runs up and to the left if you are looking at it straight on. you will see a small black box which is the stock resonator. go another foot or so and you will see where the black hose ends and is clamped on to a piece of metal on the engine. if you loosen the clamp, look inside towards the engine and thats the throttle body. if you find the throttle cable, you can push on it and the throttle body will open manually. just do this with the car off otherwise it will stall. as far as the whining, just make sure that its connected and covered by the hose properly and that the throttle body opens up all the way.
ok, thanx, i'll give this a shot tomorrow.

my car is completely stock...the noise seems to be coming from the left of the engine bay, where all of the belts are...
