Yeah, don't use turtle wax. I've never tried it, but have heard very bad things about it.
Either read up on the Cleaning Your Max... (which I did -- the whole thing a couple times through) or if you want really hardcore cleaning/detailing forums, check out Autopia Forums. These people are intense. I go there to read up on reviews and tips fairly often. Because of them, I've spent so much money on detailing supplies.
Even the .Org hasn't gotten me to spend that much money on mods yet.

regarding your question about the turtle wax; i think you might be applying too much. only a thin layer is really needed, and then buff it out.
and work in small sections, like parts of the car, ie. hood, door, fender, trunk, etc.....

Personally I use "Super Finish". It's made by Ultra Car Care Products. They have an excellent polish too that I use from time to time. The wax is great because it's easy to apply, take off, and you can use it on any surface! Except rubber of course. You can even use it on your windows to give it that glass shine. It's so easy to take off that you can apply it to the whole car and let it sit almost indefinitely and it won't matter. Still buffs out easily. You can even apply it in the sun and not have to worry about streaking. It doesn't last all that long. I apply about once a month and that's good enough. You can contact the company at 1-800-688-0044.
turtle wax lasts about 5 weeks in the georgia sun.
zaino lasts more than five months. for the time/effort and slightly higher product cost, zaino is by far a better choice. I wax twice a year and never ever lose that just-waxed bead and shine
(btw:
turtle wax: 5 weeks,
nu finish: 6 weeks,
meguires cleaner wax: 2 months,
meguires gold: 3.5 months,
zaino: 5+ months though i didn't wait till it completely wore off before reapplying. it might have gone 6 or 7 months!!

Victor hit it right on the head in that you are applying too much. But if you have a quick detailer nearby, you can spritz it on the hardened wax and remove it with a towel.
I am also in agreement that there are waaaaaaaaaaaaay better waxes than Turtle Wax. If you want to get a decent wax but don't want to spend a huge amount of cash, you might want to consider P21S or One Grand Blitz. I personally have Pinnacle Souveran and love it to pieces. It's just expensive as hell ($69.99) but as previously stated, you get what you pay for.
