4500RPM Problem

Ok... I have a Nissan Maxima SE 2002 with 5666 miles on it and it recently started acting weird on me. The last 2 days when I'm in 4th(D) and reach 4400-4600RPMS the engine actually gets quieter, like its lagging for almost 3/4-1 second, then it gets louder again and starts to pull...

Whats up with this? MAF?

Odd how it seems to be around the rpms the variable intake switches over. Not sure exactly what it is, but ofcourse if you take it in and have an aftermarket intake, you'll want to put your stock intake back on. There was a guy in 5th gen that had a bad variable intake or something and dynoed like a 20hp loss. Since you have a 2K2, just take it to the dealer and refuse to leave until they have a thorough understanding of the problem and fix it.

Do you have an aftermarket intake? If so, my first guess is MAF sensor failure. Take it in as soon as possible (with stock intake) to have it fixed. I wasn't so lucky sine mine went out without any warning at all with my frankencar intake nearly 2 hours from home. What a nightmare. If its not MAF failure, I'd guess something is screwed up with the variable intake since it is occurring where the switchover is set. Do a seach under 'vias failure'. I think it is under the FAQ page as well. Good luck.

That sounds more like a drive by wire problem than anything else. You step on the gas and the servo is slow to respond. Perhaps a servo, ECU or TPS problem. (TPS is on the gas pedal by the way)

But the gas is down all the way before and after... So I doubt it's the drive by wire...

I floor it from a stop without letting go at all until 130mph... it will pause at the exact same point.
