My tires or just a lousy wind car?

I recently purchased a 2k2 Max Se Sterling Mist, Leather. I happen to think this is one beautiful car. I bought this and gave my 16 yr to be my 93 Altima with 225,000 mi. That car gave me little to no problems. This maxima on the other hand cannot stay on the Highway doing 60-80mph in windy conditions. I ask is this a lousy wind car, crappy Bridgestone Potenzas or I just read about TSB on Traverse links, which one is it?

??? What do you mean? Does it "shimmey", "drift", or subjuct more to the little imperfections in the road...More explanation might help us...

I have never had tires this wide before so, sometimes it does seem it is grabbing every grove in the road, which pulls you into any direction it wants. But, what I mean is when a heavy gust of wind blows, my car seems to have a mind of its own and I really have to hold on to the wheel. I told this to the dealer and they said they had a TSB and adjusted something under the hood so the hood would not rattle and said they had this problem before.

I get a little drift...

not a huge amount, but do get 'road tracking' sometimes if the road is worn into furrows.

As for the hood TSB, I think that has nothing to do with what you are describing...that was for the hood flutttering, not the whole car 'drifting'.

Yep, my '02 SE is all over the road in windy conditions. Not that this car tracks well on less than perfect highway anyhow. But it's really bad in the wind. I have to drive with both hands on the wheel and steer it like a big'ol boat.

check your tire pressure - this can make a big difference in how your car tracks grooves in the highway.

I have even bigger tires (245/45/17) and it does grab the ruts a bit. As for the wind...only when I am seeing the rain go sideways do I have any "felt" issues. But you are moving from a "small" car (Altima) to a "bigger" car (Maxima). Ride characteristics will be different.

The hood "rattle" is the hood shake TSB that seals up the hood like it should so that air does not get under the hood and cause it to shake at highway speeds. This will not help your feeling of "wind" when it gusts.

just from this thread... looks like 2k2s are having the problems not the pre2k2s.

Does anybody know

If they changed the ride height or track of the car? If so could make a difference if not...??? I would like to also ask of those that experience the sensation...did you have a smaller car previous? That could lead to concern as well....I think.

Sometimes when I'm driving on the freeway going 90 or so in heavy wind my car starts to float around... Then it picks off the ground and I start soaring through the air about 10 feet above the ground. The good thing about this is instead of passing people I can just go over them and if I want to save gas just set the car down on top of them...

I'm sorry I'll be quiet now.

My 2k is much more sensitive to side wind than I would like. It feels to me like it has aero lift at the front and could really use a small chin spoiler.

Hummmmn

do check your tire pressure, I have seen cars come from the dealer seriously overinflated. It could also be your old Alti just had a better ride in the wind, I personally think the Max is pretty good, try driving around in an SUV for awhile and you will love your Max.

I have had no issues in very windy conditions. My car drives great. Ofcourse I am coming from a 4x4 Toyota Pickup with a 3 inch lift. That felt a little iffy at high speeds without any wind.

Re: My tires or just a lousy wind car?

The only time I've had problems is with 30+mph crosswinds. Otherwise, I've never noticed a problem on my 2K1.

I'm on the stock 225's @36lbs all around...

(I once had these Goodyear idiots mount tires on my contour *backwards*, which caused all sorts of handling problems until I figured it out.)

Yeah seriously...my SUV is notorious for following grooves in the road.
