how would a stock 2002 maxima do at a track event?

I just blew a turbo in my Audi S4 and it won't be fixed by Monday when I am registered to race at Mosport in Canada. But I can rent a Maxima!

Have any of you taken a stock maxima to the track? Keep in mind this is a rental so it would probably have a slushbox. Any input on whther it would still be worth driving 5 hours to the track would be appreciated.

Thanks

The only thing I can rent in my area with a V8 is a crown victoria or a chevy tahoe. So I think the Maxima is the best choice.

Are you saying the suspension is too soft for a track event? I would be re-classed to run with other stock cars like Miata's and RX7's.

Read the back of the rental contract carefully!!! I used to work for Enterprise. Of you wreck it in a race, or off roading, you're usually liable for everything!

Stock brakes will not last a lap, specially at Mosport! Don't do it!

I personally think the stock Maxima handles crappy. I'm comparing it to a Stang GT and a GSR....Even the SE with the "sport" susp. is too damn soft. Now with some eibachs.....

My point is if you have to drive 5 hours and your stuck w/ a heavy fwd car with sucky brakes, it's not work it. If it was like a hour away, it would be worth it but not 5 hours away. You can rent different cars but you have to look your your phone book under car rentals. Speciality cars or exotics. But as the other guy said, you had better watch the liability on the insurance thing. But then again, it's the same deal w/ your Audi also.

Er... I think you are all missing the point.

I took my nearly stock 2k2 SE to willow springs last week and it did beautifully. I hung in the corners with many-a smaller more nimble car. And I even pulled similar lap times with my friend's S4. Of course willow springs is a high speed track. But all in all it's about the driver not the car. And the maxima didn't leave me wanting at all.

Best lap time of the day 1:55:34

Not bad for a family sedan eh

Owning camaros and stangs all day long out there. Even passed a SVT cobra a few times. And a Z06 with a very newbie driver God I love road racing.

My Max has Maxspeeds, a FSTB, and a RSB, so I would feel comfortable in it. But if were talking stock, I can take a Stang and run circles around a stock Max. The suspension is a lot stiffer, and I know how to control a RWD a lot better than a FWD.... Just my .02 !
