Aem Cai
Aem Cai
I was browsin' the AEM web site and noticed that they are making a CAI for the 2k2 3.5L Nissan Altima. This is the same engine as us 2k2 guys and I wrote them to see if they had plans on producing one for the 2k2 Maxima. The dyno for the Alty was 192 baseline and 203.7 after the CAI was installed. I would like to know how many of you would buy one. Thanks

I started a thread like this a little while back. I also e-mailed AEM to see if they would be interested about producing a CAI for the 2002 Maxima. They never replied so I guess there answer was no. I cant really blame them though. Our cars are being redesigned in 2004 so there isn't much of a market for it. Also, since Injen came out with their CAI that doesn't require cutting there isn't a need for another brand. If you still think so, Cattman is working on one and Place Racing already has one for us.
yea but...........
the injen has no placement for a By-Pass valve, and the Place racing requires cutting a hole in your fender. I would rather not hydrolock my engine or cut up the body. but that's just me

But all of this BS doesn't matter because a tech guy at Injen told me that your Injen Warranty would be voided if you cut the pipe and put an AEM BPV on it. Now I don't really want to pay 250+ for something and then void the warranty. Do you? there has got to be a better solution for CAI. Any Ideas?
Well, on some of them they do have a heatshield. Its essentially metal that wraps around the filter, but leaves about a one to two inch area between the sheild and filter (check their site for pics). That may help so that running through a puddle doesn't ingest alot of water. Also, isn't the filter right above the undertray or undercover of the car? Shouldn't that stop alot of water from splashing up too?

This is true, the diameter of the AEM BPV matches the diameter of the Injen Piping. BUT. where are you going to put it? I would most likely want to put it infront of the MAF and if you do that then you are breaking up the support for the rest of the CAI. After the MAF the pipe turns down and then there is a support and then it ends at the filter. You want your BPV as close to the intake manifold as possible(less likely that water would make it that far). So, where are you going to put it, behind the MAF, and then pay 650 bones to get it replaced every time you splash thru some water.

Warranty or no warranty, I for one would never install a true CAI without a bypass valve. $250 is chump change compared to what it costs to rebuild an engine destroyed by hydrolock.

That is why i wanted to see if AEM would produce a CAI, because an AEM CAI warranty wouldn't be voided by an AEM BPV. I wish Injen would just come up with a BPV already

HELL YES...
I'd buy the AEM anyday over the other ones. I would never get a home depot intake. And I've never thought anything positive about the Injen. I looked on AEM's website and saw the same thing. AEM makes nice-lookin', high quality products that actually deliver HP gains. Plus they are the only ones (or at least first ones) to make the bypass valve.
