Headlight help

My mom just got a 2k2 GLE after i convinced her it was the car for her (she wouldn't get the 6 speed). anyway, my mom doesn't really care that much about the HID and I REALLY want them. I know there is a way to convert from 2k to 2k2, but has anyone tried the 2k2 to 2k? Any ideas if this would work, I've been dying to have those lights since they came out.

Yes they do. I have a 2k, my mom has the 2k2. I want her lights, but I want to make sure that I can put my lights in her 2k2.

Oh, you should of said that. Just swap the lights and be careful no one steals them. In NY they steal 2k2 HId left and right. There will be a minimal wire connection but its easy.

I know the bumper is quite different from the 2K because when they do swap the 2k2 lights it has a space on the bottom of the headlight assy. That would mean that the 2k2 headlight opening is smaller and might have fitment probs with the 2k lights. I haven't done the conversion, but this was an observation. Only one way to find out try it!

she's an optometrist.

she doesn't like the lights. it doesn't matter to her. I'm going to try it this weekend. the only problem i think i'm going to have is that the 2k2 wiring is meant for a seperate low and high bulb, hopefully this will be an easy fix.

Make sure you get some HID security bolts from TimW. Very easy and cheap way to help prevent someone from stealing your $1000 headlights.

size...

well.. they will bolt right up. you will need connectors from DaveB. I would order from him because he knows what he's doing and you'll get the right stuff (he trims one of the plugs, ask him to do this for you). And he can actually get them to you tomorrow at a reasonable price (for this weekend).

You will notice the 2k lights will be slightly recessed in a 2k2. You will no more notice it than you notice 2k2 lights bulge on a 2k. theres a slight overhang on the sides.. VERY slight. again, momz wont notice..

I think he was trying to explain the slight overhang we see on the 2K1 with 2K2 lamps installed. I am assuming that the "gap" is the reverse difference in that overhang. But it should be plug and chug minus wiring.

Does anybody know if he will need to order the different bottom side clips (those white plastic item for securing) for the change out? A set of 2K for the new car and a set of 2K2 for the old one?

he'd need both...

he'll probably break at least one of each pulling the old clips.

Thanks for the good word, Tim! I have sold one set of '00-'01 connectors & clips for a '02 theft victim that went back to non-HIDs, so I'm pretty sure it will work. Not positive of the screen name, but I think it was whoosh.

Re: Re: Headlight help

Err.. and where did he ask whether they did/claim they didn't?

I have not tried to do my conversion yet (my 2k2's are waiting impatiently ), but look at the install FAQ's and see if you can get the wiring fixed up .. it's definately possible to do.

Haven't heard of any HID thefts around here, if I get any requests, you will certainly hear from me! I think you have the market cornered!
