Curious about the IS performance...

how are the IS300s compared to 2k1 Maximas..??
couple of months ago i was on nicols rd by stony brook..and this blue IS wanted to race so we went at it...i had two passengers in my car..one is 190 and the other 130....he was by himself...he beat me by one car length...it sounded like he had a turbo...not really sure what he was running...my friend told me that it was NOS..
i went to a IS forum and saw that a lot of them have NOS...anyone might know what IS usually run..?

If you had two passengers and he had none, and he only beat you by one car while spraying that would be pretty darn pathetic!

He probably had an intake or something. IS's aren't all that quick. Without your passengers you probably would have smoked him.

I have a 5 speed IS with an injen intake and a 2k max auto with stillen intake and catback exhaust. My IS is faster than my max by maybe a length-length and a half to 100. Pretty close, but the IS is faster, especially top end when the vvt kicks in. I am sure I will be flamed, but take it from me, I have both cars, the IS is slightly faster than any max up to and including the 2k1 model. The 2k2 max is a different story of course. And by the way, the 5 speed IS is almost identical performance wise as the auto IS, so that doesnt really make a difference.

Fair comparo?? Your auto maxima vs 5 Speed IS? I think a 5 speed max will take any IS. No flames, just dis-agreement.

True...but like I said, the IS auto and 5 speed are basically the same, and all I have is an auto max, so I have no choice but to compare the two. Plus the max has a greddy catback exhaust which makes up for some of the difference anyway. But just like you, this isnt a flame, just a friendly reply

A catback won't make up the difference Between an auto and 5 speed max. A Y-pipe and catback? Maybe.

If you read what I said I did say that it would make up some of the difference.

I've raced two in the last two weeks off the line.

They were both stock, both auto's and they both lost

The IS is one of those cars that are getting MUCH more after-market support than the Maxima. I've seen guys already tuning their IS's to 600-700HP.

Well, not exactly. I'm not positive, but I beleive the Supra had iron block and head, but the IS 300 has iron block and aluminum heads. same with the GS300.

I'm pretty sure if you raced a stock '01 IS (auto) against a Stock '01 Maxima (auto) the results would be the same.

Now a 5speed IS is a different story....

I shoulda gotten stick

freakin toyota...

if you gonna cater to the younger generation at least put a 6spd gearbox in the thang.... the altezza has it with its 200hp 4 banger...
i'm pretty sure it would help with both low end and top end...

we us folks never get the top notch rides...we usually get some toned down wannabees...sucks...
