Get to the thing you want to reset and hold down the trip button until it resets. Little dashes will roll by until it re-analyzes things.

The time thing is the time that has elapsed while the car has been running since the last time you reset it. Useful if you want to see how long it takes to make a certain trip.

there's something called a manual that can tell you the answers to all your questions... but who reads them anyways. the manual would be good reading material for the bathroom.

The hour meter only goes to 99 hours (i think). I had planned on never resetting mine at all and one day I noticed that it had flipped over. So much for that idea.
