Purchase price (used) in Pacific NW...
Hey folks... been lurking here for quite a while, and I'm in the market for a new car... owned a V6 1991 Camry for quite some time now, been looking at new mid-sized sedans. Anywho, today I got to test drive a 2001 Max. Needless to say, I was _very_ impressed.
Long story short, the salesperson drove the car around (a 4 block area) over to me with the E-brake on. He didn't notice the smoking coming from the back wheels
When I hopped in, I fell in love. Pulled out of the dealership, went for a little spin. When taking off from the first light, I accidentally broke the front wheels loose and scared the salesperson... accidentally did that at the next light too. This car handles beautifully, and damn does it have some power. The salesman let me get a little squirrelly with it and leave a small smoke cloud from a stop sign in a secluded area.
Well, unfortunately this dealer wants $20,995 for an 01 with 57k miles on it. That seems kinda high-priced for a car of this sort, especially when you compare pricing to other cars that retail for about the same price (new) as the Max...
What would be a good price for an '01 Max with ~20k miles? I'd like to get into a car with _very_ low mileage, plus a good deal of time left on the warranty. Oh, and I'm in Oregon, so no sales tax here...
Thanks in advance,
-Kameron
(PS: Yep, I did a search and didn't find anything.. anything obvious anywho. Please feel free to beat, flog, and maim me if I've missed it.)

Yep. I'd be afraid of the consequenses of this dealer sitting down, being his head was so far up........ er, nevermind. Anyway, it's kinda a shame because all except 1-2 independent dealers here are owned by this company, who basically monopolizes sale on every make of car in this area.... which really sucks, because they are TOTAL scum...
"What, they're selling below bluebook? Oh, there MUST be something wrong with the car, nobody follows those standards..."

i'm kind of in the same situation as you are. I'm looking to get a 5spd A.E. 2k1 max fully loaded.. but i'm not sure if the dealer price of 22k is worth is or not.... i'm not sure how low I can actually get it down to

It's very important to consider milage when purchasing a used car. If this 2001 has 57k on it, then someboday has been driving the snot out of the car. Look at it this way... if the former owner bought the car in Jan, 2001 and put all those miles on the car in 18 months, then that's like 3k per month. That is a shload of driving! I've found 97, 98 maxes with around the same milage as that. I still have my 2001 for sale with 15k. And it's not much more in price than the one you drove (hint, hint).
