MB 320 wants to race.

The madness has started. I blew the doors off of my co-worker's Intrepid now this guy in his wife's Mercedes 320 wants to race me. I don't think I should have a problem.

Re: MB 320 wants to race.

I took an E320 down with my 2K 5 spd a long time ago, so you should have no problem. They're really not that fast...

You should take an E class no problem.

An E320, sure...
But an E430? With close to 300 lb-ft and something like 275HP they are faster than they look!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Which one is it?

I think a 2K2 6 spd has a decent chance of winning against an E430, and a 2K2 auto would give it a good run (if not win).

While the E430 has the power advantage, it also weights 3750 lbs.

E55 on the other hand...

You know, I was driving my mom's E430 yesterday night, and that thing can MOVE. You just stomp on the gas as hard as you want from a light and you take off. No wheelspin just your head pinned against the seat. The torque is incredible and it only gets better at higher speeds. That thing is a monster on the highway and is stable as hell at higher speeds. SO quiet and refined. Granted it's a boat at almost 4000 pounds but it grips the road with tenacity. It's a little difficult to rotate, but I have a feeling it would definitely give my max a run for it's money on the road course. As far as straight line acceleration the maxima would probably win, but not by a large margin, and if the race started at 100 mph it would be awfully close. Thankfully most german cars are speed limited at 135 mph. Makes me want to get an E55 or an M5..

BTW my mom has the sport package..

E320's shouldn't be a problem for you. But the E430's on the other hand can move. They have good low end but up top is where they shine... highway monsters much like the BMW 540.

Based purely on a Power/Weight ratio the Max has the advantage in HP. As far as torque goes, if i base it on the advertised TQ rating the Maxima has more weight to pull. But based on dyno-sheets i'd say the Max only has to pull somewhere in the 12.6lbs./lb.ft of torque range.

E320 (4wd)
- 221hp
- 232tq
- 3624 (3823)
Weight:HP = 16.39(17.29):hp
Weight:TQ = 15.62(16.47):lb.ft of tq

E430 (4wd)
- 275hp
- 295tq
- 3757 (3944)
Weight:HP = 13.66(14.34):hp
Weight:TQ = 12.73(13.36):lb.ft of tq

Maxima 6spd
- 255hp
- 246tq (not true!)
- 3274
Weight:HP = 12.83:hp
Weight:TQ = 13.30:lb.ft of tq

This is just a representation, #'s were taken from Cars.com, other factors will definitely come into play such as gearing and CD's.

Race him from a light......If you race him from a highway roll you are going to LOSE. From 80+ those things pull hard to the 130 limiter. My 5 speed is faster than an Auto 2k2 from a roll. My mom had a 99 E320 which suprised a lot of fast car up top.

I am willing to bet that the S500 wasnt pushing it. That cars sweet spot is the highway. No way are you gonna walk him at those speeds, unless the driver isnt pushing the kickdown switch. Anyone who has ever driven a Benz knows what I am talking about. A while back I raceds a new S600 V12 on the highway and pulled on it with 4 people. The guy was obviously not flooring his car, but I was

I know there was (supposedly) no way i could win that, but i did. It's a drivers race right?

As far as the S600 goes, i'm not stupid enough to race that car. For something that runs 5.8s to 60 i can only imagine how fast that car can go.

S500 doesnt run too impressive numbers down the 1/4...something like 14.8 or so but the trap speeds are fast for that time. I believe the last test I saw they trapped at 99 mph. But from a roll a S500 will walk a lot of cars, especially from 90+. Are you auto or 6 speed??? An auto will get walked hard, but a 6 speed might fare better.
