I was just wondering if anybody know why, on 2k2 xenons, the light is only projected upwards?

When you see the xenon's up close on the Max, only the top half of the light is lit.

I saw a Lexus GS this morning with xenons and he had the same thing gonig on; only the top half of the "circle" was lit.


Did a search for this, but couldn't find anything.

 

1/2 moon pattern is 'D2R' burners. D2S will be full circle, but requires the reflector/projector to do the cut off so as not to blind other drivers..

when ever I need to light up the sky, I use my highbeams.. I look like something from Close Encounters with all my beams on..

 

the falloff at the bottom is to provide the cutoff for the upper portion of the light. the light from the burner goes down and reflects off the bottom before proceeding out into the world upward. the reverse happens at the top. basically all the light that makes it out of the housing is reflected light, so what shines up is actually controlled by what's on the bottom. you need that 'shelf' to control the cutoff so you don't blind everyone.

 

D2Rs have a shield as well right?
