Re: Racing A Monte Carlo

Let me think....YES! The Monte's top engine is a 3.8 N/A putting out 200 HP...With the aged 4 speed auto, you shouldn't have any problems.

Let not forget that butt-ugly new Cadillac CTS. Major brain-fart on wheels. Is there ANYONE in GM management that isn't suffering from a self-inflicted, upper cranial enema?

A friend of my father just bought one of the butt-ugly Cadillac CTS or whatever they call them. So he was at the dealership and the sales guy comes up and starts blabbering about the Escalade EXT. My father asks why he would want a $55,000 chevy avalanche. Needless to say the guy wasn't happy.

True. True. Cadillac too.

Further proof that price and poor taste are not mutually exclusive.

They wanted a car that would blend in with the rest of their line-up.

Seriously, I'm glad Bob Lutz was brought on because GM styling was just becoming ridiculous. The latest concepts (new GTO, Solstice, Razor) are actually decent looking.

Currently, all the Pontiac cars look like something out of a cartoon. They should change the motto from "Driving Excitement" to "Ribbed for your Pleasure".

The Chevy cars range from incredibly boring (Lumina) to incredibly ugly (Impala), with the Monte Carlo being somewhere in-between.

Performace-wise, your buddy in the Monte Carlo should be worrying more about Mazda Proteges and Honda Odessy's.

He's really got nothing to worry about when racing Maxima's because he IS going to lose. You only worry when you don't know what the outcome will be.

Dang, that thing looks like it's ready to run the monster mile or something. But the Monte SS's are so weak. I see so many of them, and the drivers of the car's must really think the cars a special. Which I can understand, my Maxima is special to me, but they are slow. I haven't run into a 2002, but pleanty of 99, 00, 01 s around. Play with him a bit, then smoke em.

That car was a factory prototype setup with 300/280 (hp/tq). Yes, it was modeled after the Cup cars. Never made it into production due to Earnhardt's death.

The Monte Carlo is more looks than performance. That thing runs low 16s on a good day. You could take him with your TCS on.

A friend of mine owna a 2002 Monte Carlo. To be quite honest, I really don't think much of it. It's a real slow car. His car doesn't pick up past 110 mph or so. I like to give him a big head start, then I smoke him. At times, I allow him to get a full 30 or 40 car length lead while we're cruising around 60 mph or so. Its just so amusing to see the look on his face after I pass him doing 130. Too funny!

In a head to head collision I'd rather be sitting in that big ol piece of plastic rather than the Max

Good one!

I always have said that Pontiac should slightly alter their motto from "Driving Excitement" to "Driving Excrement" based upon their lack of reliability, performance, and (yuck), what passes for styling!

Of course, that goes for ANYTHING made by GM.

I'll agree... that is... it goes for anything GM except the Vette.

if its a thrasher MC then be very careful, if it is u might want a 125 or more shot of N20 before u mess with those. their kit makes the MC 420hp ! supercharged. but i really doubt ud find one of those around.

I had a Monte Carlo for rental in Florida. The can feels heavy, and the interior isn't great. I prefer the Grand Am SE, Alero, Regal (non-SC) over it.
