Have the 2000 I30. Since the weather turned cold, noticed rattle from the glove box. (I have noticed others posting similar observation). Seems to be a bit more play than needed when the glove box is closed.

Did the following and it seems to stop the rattle:
Find the 3 rubber "nipples" than make contact with the door when it is closed. Find out exactly where it contacts the door (did this by putting a little white caulk on the "nipples" and then closing the door and looking for the caulk on the inside of the door)

Then go to the kitchen, take 3 of those small rubber stops from inside the kitchen cabinet doors or draws, and attach then to the inside of the glove box door where the "nipples" make contact.( I used clear caulk to make then stick) Wait 12hrs , then close the glove box door and the door now closes nice and snug with no "play".

Drove the car and no rattle!

STEVE

ps. fixed the rattle from the rear deck by rolling up towels, taking off the cover on the "base" unit speaker and placing the towel around under the deck.

Rather try these thinks myself, don't have time to go back to the dealer unless for something serious.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks!

I was going to try just running some weather stripping along the top of the inside of the box but your method sounds cleaner.

As far as the rear deck goes, I have a non-bose car so I have to try to attack this problem from the bottom up...not the easiest thing in the world to do

Thanks for the tip!

U just gave me another idea. The little rubber bumpers that are used In PCs to hold the system board from shorting out on the chassis, got plenty of those laying around and they are stickonz and come in differant sizes. I might try that out, Rear deck I used poly fill from Wal-Mart. about $2 a bag and stuffed it in the rear deck, fixed it then but its come back to haunt me again so I gotta do some more work or take it to the dealer if it becomes too much of a pain.

My glovebox doesn't rattle, it just creaks or snaps when going over a bump. If I drive with the glovebox open there is no noise. Did yours rattle or creak? At any rate, I'm going to try your remedy today.

Nissan Maxima Glove Box Rattle

I took my 2000 GLE in to Arlington Nissan on 12/06. We checked out five 2000 or 2001 Maximas, and found a similiar rattle on each of the glove compartments. This is caused by the lock mechanism being too loose. The maint. manager did not have a solution and suggested I call 1-800-1Nissan to register a complaint. I urge other owners to also call.
The Maxima is a fantastic vehicle, and its overall quiet ride should not be marred by a loose glove compartment lock. When you call, urge Nissan to come up with a fix without having to replace the whole glove compartment door. If they replace the door, it will have to be repainted and you know how rarely that works to customer satisfaction.

i recently noticed a rattle

coming from the drivers door, when the stereo is on and when there is a lot of bass. i got the 120watt 6-spkr system, so i know the sound quality isnt that great, but the other doors dont rattle when the stereo is. i also noticed that it only rattles when the stereo is on. if i turn the stereo of and drive on a bumpy road, to rattles. anyone have that problem or something similar?

The rattle you hear is more than likely not the lock....I got the same line from my Service Manager...."it's the lock and we can't do anything about that"

Well I removed the lock all the way down to the cylinders and tumblers and out tape in places to make sure it did not rattle...reassembled it and that baby is tighter than Al Gore's ***. Went for a drive afterwards....."rattle, rattle"

Didn't do crap.....next time you are driving and your glovebox rattles, lean over push it tighter against the dash...I bet your ratttles vanish...the noise is from the box not fitting tight enough against the dash...I think the above solution will work...going to try it tonight!

Re: i recently noticed a rattle

I made a post about door panel buzzes - it may be your problem as well.

Well

I went to the local Maxima parts store (aka as Home Depot as TimW has mentioned) and bought some of those felt tabs that go on the cabinets. Probably should have got the rubber ones after rereading this thread. Anyways put then on the inside if the box where the rubber nipples hit.

So far so good! Car sounds a lot quieter! Not a bad fix for 3 bucks...so far

Thank You!

curing rear shelf rattle

Hi. For those of you who fixed your rear shelf rattle with towels, etc., how did you remove the BOSE speaker cover? Does it just snap off? I am assuming that once the cover is removed, you just stuffed a towel around the speaker and replaced the cover? Thanks in advance for your help.

cover removal

Yes the speaker cover on the rear deck just snaps off. If I remember, you push the front side of it towards the back and it will pop off. Then push the rolled up pieces of towel under the deck, not under the speaker cover.

By the way, one week now without the sound from the glove box

Steve

How far back were you able to stuff the towels back? Like I said above, I have a non-Bose Max and must attack this problem fron the trunk Not easy to see what the heck I'm doing..... Looks like there are foam strips that surround the opening that might make it tough to stuff anything in there.

My felt stick ons do a good job on quieting the glovebox down but not 100%... certain bumps will make it speak out but nothing like it was before.

Thanks!

rear deck

rolled the pieces of towels in ***** and stuffed them (4) about 3 inches under the deck from the opening where the speaker cover was removed.

(I had looked to see if I could get to it from the trunk but didn't see a way.)

Did the following and it seems to stop the rattle: . . .
Go to your local Radio Shack Store and pick up a pack of Self-Sticking Cushion Feet, Part Number 64-2346, for $1.19. Then stick the feet where the nipples make contact with the glove box door.

Voila! Rattle gone.
