2k2 auto vs W8?

who do you think would win a race from a stop, the new passat W8 or a 2k2/2k3 auto maxima?

lets say the 2k2/2k3 is slower then the 6sp would take it with no problem right?

how bout from a roll?

I thnk it would be a pretty good race since the VW is putting out 275hp and 0-60 of 5.9sec. At least I think that's about right. I defiently don't think the Maxima 6spd would walk it by no means.

0-60 in 5.9 sec for the W8??

i read in car and driver that they say it is 6.9 for their testing and vw says 6.5

Never mind I stand corrected. If it's 6.9 then the 2k2 Maxima 6spd and auto will smoke the **** out of it.

It looks like with all that torque and AWD, it should be tie with the 2k2 max. if VW says 6.5 0-60 then...it could be a few tenths seconds off but for those few tenths seconds, the 2k2 6sp max is backing it up

Yeah that's true. Yoo know 0-60 in 6.9 or 6.5 sec is pathetic to say the least. I would expect better out of a W8 especially with 275hp.

But it is a heavier car isn't it?
and doesn't it have mad torque?

Thats around the same hp as an S4 isn't it? I'd expect it to have a better take off, but it may be geared for top end though.

At 6.9 seconds, it'd be a good race for a 2K1 5 speed.

Well the top speed is only 136mph according to the July edition of Car & Driver.

they weigh 3400 which is awesome for a V8 engine.

i'd say 6.5 looks pretty good for 0-60
but as someone said, we'll see how they do in real life and not magazines numbers.

oh, i'd bet they eat the 2k1 5sp, 2k1 just don't have enough torque to stay with it.

From listening to Pat Goss on the radio and reading a few magazine articles the W8 isn't a very reliable engine at the moment.

If the car only weighed in at 3400 pounds it would be much quicker. According to this article the W8 is just over 3900 pounds.

People It looks like there isn't any Volkswagen made today to be afraid of. However if someone who has way too much time on their hands decides to cram a W8 into an old Corrado SLC, we would all have cause for concern.

not for nothin, but for an eight cyl engine, 275 is it's hp output?? Thats, well, pathetic. I mean, Nissan puts out "280" (most likely more)hp in it's 2.6 litre 6cyl RB26DETT. Further proof that VW sucks. Buy a real car, spend the extra money and get an audi. VW is for cheap hippies

I mentioned that it wouldn't be a threat to the Maxima But I don't agree that the thing sucks. It may have 8 cylinders but don't forget it's still only 4.0 liters.

Passat W8 270hp divide by 4.0 liters is 67.5 hp per liter which isn't bad.

Maxima VQ 255hp divide by 3.5 liters is 72.9 hp per liter

Altima VQ 240hp divide by 3.5 liters is 68.6 hp per liter

As you can see there is no negligeable difference in use of displacement between these engines. The only thing that really sucks about the Passat (performance wise) is it's obese 3900 pound curb weight.

Isn't the W8 also AWD? That would explain for a bit of power loss... I think it would be a good match with a 2k2 auto.

Q45 has 340hp.. its got half a litre on the W8, and makes almost 70hp more. VW = skunked

One of the reasons for the W8 is the small size. Try fitting the Q motor inside the Passat's chassis.
