my gas mileage results

Just thought I would post my gas mileage results.I have seen it being talked about before on this forum
My maxima 2002 GLE now has 2500 miles on it [its my weekend car ,my JEEP is my
week day car]
My mods are a K&N drop in, & FSTB. My trip was from long island NY to upstate NY[ALBANY}.
Sunday morning
I went 170.6 miles used 5.1 gallons of fuel equals 33.4 miles per gallon[very nice],ac on all the way cruse set at 70 when I could use it. No traffic problems.Trip computer told me my mileage was 31.9, pretty close.
My trip home, got a little lost for 15 miles hit three traffic jams had to detour around a bit, it was a hotter day .Ac on the hole time much more traffic, had to blow away a few cars [ they deserved it], drove 203.3 miles used 7.4 gallons equals 27.7 miles per gallon , not bad. Trip computer told me about 29.6 but is was jumping around a lot because of the changes in traffic conditions. I do find the trip computer to be accurate when you get on the highway and reset it, go on your trip and then refuel the computer is close

From: Atlanta
I went up north Chattanooga on Sat. to get some stuff for the 4th
I reset the mpg while on the eway and shortly after hit a nice down hill strech got the car close to 100 and coasted over 1mi. 67.4 was where it went to lol. Over all for the trip I got 28.4.

Just as we past Chattanooga I was running with a newer silver Firebird, not a TA, and he wanted to play. We couldn't ever get 2 open lanes so we played keep up a few times. The 1st. time he was in front and I was on his a$$ the whole time had had to let off cause I got to close. The 2nd 2 times I was in front and running at about 65 I dropped it to 4th and nailed it both times he couldn't keep pace and after that he got off at the next exit.

Your one of the first where the trip computer was less than actual mileage. generally the trip computer reads 2 to 4 higher. Are you sure you filled the tank as full as the original tankful? If you did then thats great mileage. The fact that your trip computer read higher on your return trip than your actual mileage tells me you may not have squeezed in all you could on the trip up. Either way its great mileage for a car with that performance

Because of variations in pump-fill accuracies, you can not take a 1 fill-up trip to be completely accurate. You always take an average over multiple fills. For example, when I go to Toronto to visit family, I reset my computer at each fillup (I do that anyway) and keep track from the point of the first fill till the trip end where I again fill-up in the same area. Then I can get an average of the whole trip.

Yup thanks for info
After reaching Albany and I refueled it was so full that I tried to put more in the tank and it over flowed all over my fender
It was a good run best mileage yet
I understand what you are saying through thanks

I burned a little over a quarter tank on the way up
For some reason the trip back the mileage always seems to drop even in my jeep + the traffic problems made it drop off too

I don't have 1000 miles on the clock yet, and my gas mileage is majorly $hitty! My 2K used to get about 24MPG. Now I am barely breaking 20! Do you think my MPG will go up?

not that much

it's not going to jump 7 or 8 mpg...

I get more than 430 per tank, except for this last one. A friend wants to take my 2k2 6-speed and his SLK 320 to the track and run 1/4 miles, so I've been practicing my takeoff. I've posted before about getting very good mileage because of my commute (3 miles to the highway, 20 miles all highway, then return in the pm, never any traffic).

Now that I'm pushing it hard off the line I only got 320... I lost over 110 miles in a tank just from starting hard off 12 lights (6 to work and then same 6 coming home)! I still drive the same once I get on the highway so it was the hard acceleration that did it... it's the only thing I did different this tank.

But about $5 in gas is worth it to make SURE I don't lose to my buddy's Mercedes.

Can anyone tell me how long it took before they got their best mileage on a new car? 1000 miles, 2000, 5000?

I haven't noticed much of a change from brand new. Averaging 24 to 26 actual milage, not computer mileage, always fill up at the same pump most of the time. That gives it a fair check

I've narrowed my brands down to 2 places. Shell and Amoco. What's weird is I was getting 2-4 miles per gallon higher with Amoco, but the car seems to run a little smoother with Shell. I hope that somethings not wrong with my Max because that's an aweful big gap. I was getting around 30-31 highway on a 2k2 GLE with Amoco. With Shell I've been averaging 26-27. City it's a bigger gap.

Latest gas mileage stats on 2002 SE Auto.
Miles= 375
Gas = 15.7 gallons
Actual Mileage- 23.8 mpg
Trip Computer= 27.7 mpg
DTE = 45 miles started blinking at this point
Gas gauge needle was between empty and the first little line on the gauge
Conditions Very hot an humid all week, AC on the whole time with around 110 miles higheway driving
This is pretty good in my estimation for a car that runs this strong.

search on my name

I've only ever used 89 octane... won't use 87 and not worth it to pony up the extra 14 cents for 91.

all posts by me concerning mileage are for 89.

on another note, took a 320 mile trip to the in-laws for the 4th and got 26+ mpg including 240 mile highway run and about 80 miles around town while there.
