Considering a SE...

Good to see so many enthusiasts here. I currently drive a '99 Mustang Cobra and am mostly satified with it now. However, there is a baby on the way and I feel the need to move to a sedan. I've grown accustomed to the V8 (320HP) and I'm wondering what can be done with the Maxima's V6 to approach those numbers. The majority of the performance upgrades I've seen on Maximas are intake and exhaust related. What type of gains can be realized from a y-pipe, intake, cat-back, etc.? Also, does anyone make a supercharger for the Maxima? I seem to remember an article in Motortrend or Car and Driver that talked about a supercharged Maxima they had built.
I'm not looking to build a drag car but I'd like to have something about as fast as the Cobra. Thoughts?

I'm not sure on the exact #z but the super charged max would run high 13z I think. high 12z to low 13z with NOS. N/A Maxima would run high 14z. These are the 5spd #z just incase U R wondering. Stillen sells the S/C for about $3300 and prolly pay someone about $600 to install it.
Maybe the cost of diapers, baby food,etc.. and having a car seat in the back may put damper on your budget and need for superspeed (especially since you say your dragging days are over). Perhaps try running stock, maybe with a K&N kit, and work up from there...it's fast enough for me

Thanks for considering my budget and personal needs in your response NYC2SD. I wonder how I've gotten by without you all these years.
In all seriousness, this won't be the primary family car so you can all rest assured that I have no plans to run a 12 or 13 second down at the local strip with the family in tow. Besides, it's tough to find helmets that small.
A K&N kit, whether it's just the filter or an entire filter relocation kit (CAI), has never really seemed worth the trouble for the minimal gains you receive when only adding them to a stock setup. However, they can make a bigger difference when adding them into the tuning equation with a super or turbocharger. I guess now I'm leaning towards the SC and a cat-back for starters.
One more question, are there any parts dealers that sell Stillen products or are they only available from the source?
Thanks for your help,
Scott
