Installing a new sound system....

i have some questions about sound systems...

im contemplating buying a couple subs and a new amp for my 2000 max(which currently has the bose system in it). my question is, can i leave the bose head unit and speakers in and put in the new amp and subs, or do i have to get a new head unit/speakers?

i find that the bose speakers are high quality and the sub is the only part i find lacking. i dont want to have to spend a $1000 on a system, can anyone help me out?

I had the Clarion Unit (same as BOSE) and had a sub/amp hooked to it. It sounded OK. But when i got my sony 52x4, IT WAS OFF THE HOOK! Don't be cheap, buy a aftermarket head unit for $150 and ENJOY

You just contradicted yourself saying dont be cheap then saying buy a 150 dollar head unit.............

Your sig pic is also way too big and lower your car damnit!!!!!!!!!1

Anyways.... yes its simple to add a sub amp combo to the blose system. There is a black and white set of wires going from the bose amp into the bose sub. This is the bass signal... Tap into that for your signal. There is also a green wire connected to the bose sub. This is the remote turn on signal. Tap into that for the remote turn on for your amp..

For real...a $150 deck? No thanks. I think if you want to just add some bass, get the Infinity Basslink.

Haha. But that Audiovox will still give out more bass than that crappy BOSE unit.

bose2000gle, i also am also somewhat satisfied with my factory speakers. however, i am looking into possibly swapping out the tweeters for something better.

my biggest gripe was the lack of bass. i added an infinity basslink-x (it's a single 10" self-amplified unit). it's nice and small as to not take up a lot of trunk space. im in college and i need that space for books. hahaha, yeah right. but yeah, the basslink adds just about the right bass for me... and on some tracks, rap and techno especially, too much bass! remember of course, that too much and too little bass is a matter of personal preference.

try doing a search for basslink and you'll find that quite a few .org members have them and love them.

good luck!

Whats wrong with buying a $500.00 head deck for a $25k car? If you spend alot to drive the car you shouldnt skimp on the accessories..

That's a dangerous mindset to have. Sometimes you don't need to pay more to get more.

There's really no need to spend that much on a deck these days. The power ratings are all around 50x4. The only difference is if it will have garbage like a dancing screensaver or XM satellite capabilities.

Looking in Crutchfield, I see PLENTY of great decks for around $250-$300.

Igor- I would spend the difference of that money on some springs. They're like $150!!!! Just do it dude....

SERIOUSLY NOW....

if you want to hook up to your bose system its entirely possible... you need a simple line out converter (changes speaker level signal to line level rca). then an amp and a sub....

however, if you want it to sound good, pickup a pioneer or kenwood deck from a big retailer. those two brands have a 4v rms output, and you can usually find one for under $300 that has all the outputs that you need. plus a big retailer like best buy or circuity city and such will have a lower price than a car shop.

forget about all that high end crap unless you want to sink thousands into it like i've done in the past..... good luck

I was actually wondering the same thing. I have a friend that wants to sell his old Rockford Fosgate Punch 75 and a JL Audio 10" sub for $150. I'm fine with the way the OEM speakers sound, but need more bass. I figured I might as well hook the new amp up to the OEM speakers as well. 10 years ago I had $5-6k in stereo equiptment in my Dodge Shadow ES. I was competition all the way, but I find that I'd rather spend the money in the house. You can get a hell of a home theatre for that kind of money. Back to the original question I was going to ask. So from what I understand, hooking up the Fosgate amp to the OEM speakers and the JBL sub will be doable?

yeah, its doable... your amp won't receive the BEST voltage, but it will work. those RF amps don't quit... i ran mine thru several db drags, and hard on the street every day for 2 years... about to reinstall everything into the max... still working fine

I had MB Quatz all around, SoundStream and HiFonics amps (Hifonics was good at that time) Eclipse head unit, Audio control Equipt. All Pheonix gold wiring. Ah crap, I just can't remember it all. I used to do the work myself, but it's been so long and I just don't have the patients to work on the crap anymore.

I am getting this one.

plus I am building a custom box with fiberglass that fit on the other side of the trunk then the jack. And my amp rack is going on the jack side but movable to get the jack. I have part of the box done if you want me to take a few pics just ask.

Although the fiberglass boxes look amazing, nothing beats 3/4" medium density fiber board. Low resonance with amazing sound. I had 2 10" Rockford Fosgates running isobaric (essentially set up as 1 woofer) and it pounded harder than twelves. Unfortunately the wood is very, very heavy.

Does anyone have any pics of their system? I have a system in my 94 max, and I am going to start fresh on one for my 2k2 SE, and I am looking for some ideas. I already searched through the cardomain.com site, and now I am asking...

Thanks

it is a nice deck, but i got to ask..."why do u need a remote when u are not even an arm's length away from the head unit?" I really think thats a waste...no? And if it is a required need for all you audiophiles, do u use it ALL the time? Still thats my 2 cents...

the remote comes with it. and MDF is the best to use that's why I am using 3/4 inch particle board with the back being fiberglass 8 layers is stronger the wood when done.
