5th gen manual VS. 3000GT manual
One guy I know just bought a 93 Mitsu GT 3000GT manual (3.0 225hp v6?). Is his car faster than mine- 2k GXE 5 spd? Anyone raced those? I know it is not a 3000GT VR4

The non-VR4 version of the 3000GT and Stealth are front wheel drive, not RWD. They are 222hp and 205lb ft of torque, but are pretty heavy...started at 3200lbs without options. They were good for 0-60 in the high 7's. His engine is probably a bit tired too with 120K+ miles on it. If you know how to drive stick, you will kill him.
Let us know how it goes!

u r a winner
Y2KMaxGXE-R
Go a head man....as all the experts said here the sl one is heavier and older so for sure u r a winner in advance.
My car is (a non us version) rated at 220hp stock ..so i raced one of those LS and i got him easily by 130mph he was like 5 carlengths behind.
Also i had a race along time ago when my car was stock with one 3000vr-4 with a worn-out clutch the race was from 20mph in 1st..i got him until shifted to 3rd then he edged me and i kept with him up to 110mph...i have to be fair here...his car was in good condition except from the clutch it made a big difference.....also i had one person with me and he had 2 people with him..but still what i did was good enough for a stock maxima....here is the video : ( bad quality )
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/THE_GO...300GT%20tt.mpg
Now with my mods on i had the chance to race a 1995 mitsubishi 3000GT vr4 spyder(320hp in a very good condition) as follows:
- rolling from 25 mph in first ...he kept 1st & 2nd with me then i passed him and by 115 he was like 3cars behind me.
- rolling from 44 mph in 2nd...he kept with me in the same gear ...and when i shifted to 3rd i started to pull a way from him all the way to 105mph ..he was about 2 cars behind.
- rolling from 75mph at 3rd ..he kept with me until 95mph then i pulled a way from him when i reached 147mph he was 5 car length behind the more we go the more the distance between us.
We will have a rematch soon when he get his boost controller ready and when i got my ecu/(revlimter removed) done..i will post the video here ASAP.
all the best,

secs 0-60mph in my friend's 94 3000 GT 5-speed with very bald tires
and my first time driving his car. With some new tires and a little
practice, mid 6's 0-60 is within reach for a stock normally aspirated 3000 GT.

Found a good page with VR4 information. Performance numbers sound slightly optimistic.
This is the link
Here are the performance claims:
0-30 mph............................... 1.9 seconds
minimum stopping distance 122' @ 60 mph
minimum stopping distance 218' @ 80 mph
0 - 60 mph : 5.4 seconds
0 - 100 mph : 13.6 seconds
(stock times)
Lateral acceleration on 200' skidpad = .90g
1/4 mile - 13.7 響 mph
(stock times)
5th gear rpm - 155 mph
6th gear rpm - 160 mph
Also weighs ~3700 lbs!
Engine redline - 7,000 rpm

Re: 5th gen manual VS. 3000GT manual
You should have no problem with it, my friend had one before he traded it in for a trans am and I raced him in a celica GT-S which was my girlfriends and we were dead even. That should tell you something
I dont think that a celica is much of a challenge to a maxima so do the math.

3000GT or stealth DOHC have between 217 and 222 HP depending on year. (newer 1s are lower). they are good for low low 15s stock with a good driver. on par with a 5 speed max.
my GF has a stealth RT 5 speed and i pull her oh so slowly with my 5 speed 00 SE. from a roll in 2nd she will stay right with me and start to pull when she gets above 6 grand. if it has ANY mods be prepared to lose if he can launch. the car is much harder to launch than a max....no traction what-so-ever. floor it in 1st from a roll and the tires just roast.
those performance numbers appear to be from a poorly driven 2nd gen VR4. a car that is capable of 13.4s stock. my 1st gen VR4 went 13.7 stock.
the non-turbo models range between 3150 and 3400lbs depending on options. stealths being lighter than 3000GTs.
if you are scared of any model..it should be the 96 stealth TT.....about 3500 lbs stock and 13.0 second capable off the showroom floor.
gearing on the max seems to be a little shorter...but it also has a lower redline so you will be shifting a little more too. the NA 3s is fastest when revved up to 7600 or so in 1st and 7500 in 2nd. redline is 7 grand and the motor can hit 8.
