Gas Mileage went from 22 to 30.5 with Fuel injector Cleaner
Yes you heard freagin right. I just came back from Alabama where it is about 800 miles. The first tank only gave me 22mpg. All highway around 80-85mph. Then the next tank, I decided to drop in two fuel injector cleaner bottles, one being a STP and the other the Chevron. Yes I dropped them in at the same time.
Filled it up with premium and the next time I filled the tank I calculated over a 30.5mpg with the same 80-85mph driving. And no I did not mis-calcuate, I been calculating my mileage since I bought this car, so dont even go there.
I dont know for sure how it went up that much, but I dont care, if the combination of that the two fuel injector cleaners did it, then good stuff.

was that your first time ever using a fuel injector cleaner? if so the double dose probably cleaned a ton of gunk out.
When I ran the cleaner for the first time at about 20K I noticed a 3 mpg improvement, but that involved lead footed city driving.

wow..
if you dont need your injectors rebuilt in few more hundred miles, then great. I was told you could run *most* cleaners at 1/4 to 1/2 of the directions.
As rough as my car runs, I'm about to say screw it and dump some in myself. I'd like new coils and plugs too, but I'm only at 32K

OK
I have been wanting to do this but have not based upon the "myth/fact" that we are not supposed to put injector cleaner in our cars.
I have used Premium the entire life of the car and dont really have bad mileage (avg 23-26 MPG depending upon amount of city driving). Soooo am I risking it all for virutally no gain OR do we really need to worry about FI cleaner at all because of needing > 91 Oct? BTW I dont buy Crap gas....Mobil 1 only in this car.
Is there a page number reference (for fact..not "I heard" or "go ahead it wont hurt" type comments) so that I can look it up. Or a website to peruse?
Dixit: I would be curious to see if you notice a declining MPG as time goes by until you "clean" again and how long/bad it will get?

the only *safe* way...
is to get your Service manager to recommend it.. and they will... buy the Nissan stuff for a few bucks more just to be sure. You'd be covered.
I've always bought the best gas, my car has always pulled hard, but idles like a funny car. I've felt other maxes that loap, so I didnt throw a sh*t fit about it, but it does bother me.

Colonel:
Cant really tell if the mileage gets worse cause now I will do standard city/hwy driving which normally brings me to about 20-22 mpg.
TimW, Dont think I need new injectors since I already put 500 miles since the "cleaning"

Redline Fuel System Cleaner
I bought a bottle of the Redline cleaner and have yet to put it in, but this discussion is getting me worried about possible side effects. Does anybody know if this stuff is safe to use or not? It says its good for injectors made by Nissan, but who knows. I've only got 5k miles on my car and no apparent problems, just want to keep everything clean and like new. I know, overkill. Thanks for any info.

hmmm
the issue would be increased heat. I'm not sure how long it would take for a problem to arise. awhile back, alot of people were having to have their injectors fixed after running cleaner. This may have been a 4th gen issue or a specific brand of cleaner. I'm not sure, obviously its not a problem for you. Most Nissan techs (for what thats worth) will tell you to be very careful with it. I asked *alot* about using it with many different dealers regarding my hard start issues and rough idle. They scared me away from it.n But I'm really reconsidering it.

what those fuel injector cleaners do is they eat your injectors, the acid they use in those fluids ruin the injectors. you think the acid know what to clean and what to leave alone, it will clean the buildup IN the injector and the injector itself. i don't know if its good to say f*ck it but how much does injectors cost anyways? if you need to reaplace them anyways and its no biggie , then you can do that i guess.
My friend used it once i think and he said that he'll never use it again and i don't plan on using it too
btw in the manaul, they also said not to use any of those addons fluids.
