Car won't start - Who else is having this problem

My 2k SE on occasion does nothing when the key is turned over. No clicking, just silence. On the 4th or 5th try it will start normally. Lately it has taken many trys to get it to light and putting it into nuetral seems to help.

Anyone else experienceing this and knows what the problem might be? I've reported it to my deater to get it in their system if something should fail when the car is out of warantee.

Me! My mom just called me up(cause I'm in CT right now) and told me the Maxima won't start!? I'm like what happened? and she said that she can't even turn the key. and when she locks\unlocks it the horn and rear lights don't blink! but the security light is blinking. So can some one help me out, cause I have no funking clue whats wrong.

it wont start on the first try every so often. it's been like that since i got the car. seems like many people have this problem, but your case sounds pretty bad.

steering lock maybe? if her steering is indeed locked, tell her to turn the steering wheel while trying to turn the key.

Maxima06071,
maybe the battery is dead.

mike-777,
have you checked the water levels in the battery? the factory maxima battery needs maintenance.

Here's a long shot.

You don't have another transponder on your key ring, do you?

My dad's old 2nd gen used to have this problem. There was an easy fix to this: we used to just mess with the shifter pushing forward while it was in PARK. I'm guessing the car thinks it's not fully engaged into park so just give it a little push forward and then try to start. It worked all the time for our old 2nd gen.

Assuming you have an automatic it's probably the switch in the shifter that detects whether the car is in park or not. There was a thread about this before. Here's a post that gives a fairly reproduceable test so you can show it to the dealer and get them to fix it (hopefully under warranty).
