2K3 TE not worth it

If you are looking at this forum because you are researching a new Max, please buy a 2K2. I was at the dealer today picking up a Murano borchure and checked out the 2003 TE in the showroom. It's the same car. The titanium accents aren't even that apparent. The wheels are the exact same thing as a 2K2 with an ever so slight polish on them. I repeat save yourself some cash!!!

Everytime I looked at another pic of the interior changes on a 2k3 TE I couldn't really see a difference. I thought the pics must be fooling my eyes. Apparently not.

Guys,

You are not really paying 1k for the package. You are paying 1k primarily for the Bose stereo. The Bose used to cost $900, so for one hundred more now, you get a few cosmetic goodies along with the Bose, which I think is worth it.

...not to mention not taking an additional years hit on depreciation immediately upon delivery now that the 2K3's are out. I get my 2K3 TE SE in August -- fully loaded! 6 Speed.

The TE is a sweet looking car. The pictures don't do it justice. If you really want to see one then go to the dealer and look at one beside a Sterling Mist and a Sheer Silver.

The TE, I believe, is an option package you can get with the 2003 SE.
I personally am waiting for the 2003 SE in Sheer Silver (one of the 2 new colors) W/O the TE package.

I'm not flammin on the TE, I am just thinking that it is worth getting a better deal and the rebate on the 2K2. They are both going to depreciate like a **** when the 2004 comes out

You also get side airbags with the TE pkg.

And if you want a fully loaded SE model, don't you have to have the TE pkg. because the BOSE is no longer sold as a single option. Actually the TE pkg is cheaper than the old BOSE pkg at invoice isn't it? Plus you get side airbags, which at least cost $200.

Hmm...I know for a fact i don't fit in the 00, 01, or 02 Maxima's, as I've sat in all of them before and just don't have enough right knee room between the wheel and center stack. This was my only damned reason for not buying an 02 6spd when my Accord was totalled and I really REALLY wanted one!

I wonder if the 03's have any right knee room clearance tweaks to them. Sometimes they make very very subtle changes from year to year that you don't always pick up on. Time to stop by the Nissan dealership again. Maybe my dream will come true - a modern Maxima I can actually fit in!

TE appears to be a cosmetic upgrade....

I looked at one when I bought my car. Nice polished wheels, aluminum/drilled pedals, some chrome in the interior, etc.

I didn't know the BOSE was part of the bundle, I think you still have to apy for it as an added option, basically they load up the car if you want the TE.

Kind of a waste for me, better off with 2002 and $1000 back. Is the body being changed for 04'? We are all screwed then for resale value.

Just my .02$

Steve-
All the seat stuff for '03 carries the same part #'s as an '02. However, the console is different! If the console was part of the prob before, an '03 might be worth a look-see.

Resale value has never been one of Nissan's strong suits.

Not to flame sterling mist owners but the sheer silver is a great color.

The problem is a HUGE amount of depreciation when you drive a new Nissan off the lot. The supply and demand dictates the resale value. But by buying a USED Nissan, you should have very few problems- other than the fact that it is used.......

from what I heard on here, NISSAN makes reliable cars, than why does it still depreciate that much? cuz people don't like to buy used nissans?

Nissan doesn't have historically bad resale value...they just aren't at the top of the list. What are you comparing it to? Honda or Hyundai? The Maxima doesn't even fair that bad when compared to the almightly Honda Accord in resale value...which used to be the king. Look up the numbers.

The only way to use resale value as a consideration for purchase is if you already have a general idea of the miles you will put on your car, annually, and if you already know when you intend to sell it. If you know you are going to sell the car in two years, it is probably better to buy a 2003 today, because it will have a slightly higher resale value in 2004 when you sell it. Of course, if you keep the car for 10 years, the 2002 would end up a better choice since you will have paid less for it up front. So, unless you are clairvoyant...just go out and buy a car based on what you want to buy today.

I think that a lot of you that are in love with the interior accents of the TE should check out a Max with a Brushed Aluminum dash kit in person. If you really want the new Silver color, then it would be worth it to get the TE, but besides that, I caan do wothout the compass in the rear view, since I have Navi...

SteVTEC, have you looked at the I35. One of the subtle differences between the Max and I35 interior is that the I35's e-brake is the kind on the floor that you press with your foot. That should give you a little extra room. I'm a big man also, and I wish that the Max steering wheel had more tilt & telescoped. But I think the e-brake being on the floor would have given me a little extra room. The only setback to the I35 is no manual.

Isn't the 2002 Max rebate/APR deal already over?

I had a chance to check out the 02 TE too. I wasn't really feelin the Sheer Silver...it looked too much like the silver you find on Civics, Integras, etc... The Polished Tiatnium looks really good though.

Resale is bad primary because you can find lots of used base model Maximas on the rental lots. If you want to get a GXE Maxima cheap, that would be the way to go - that is if you want to take a chance on a former rental car.

aha! but in order to get a compass in a non TE maxima you have to pay a lot more more for the navi that has one whereas the TE comes standard with a compass. Also if you got a navi in a TE you would then have TWO compasses. Now thats worth paying the big bucks.

I am sure they would delete the compass mirror out of Navi models.
