Re: Question about cleaning K&N filter ?

Personally, for the $45 each one costs, I just replace the thing every 20,000 miles and don't worry about cleaning incorrectly.

Oil is an integral part of K&N's filtering action. Just follow the instructions that come with the kit.

Spend the $10 on a cleaning kit. It's a solution that you spray on and let soak in, then you rinse with water and some more oil. The solution helps loosen the dirt so the filter will get cleaner when you rinse it.

Hey iwannabmw, thank you, that's what I did yesterday I bought the K &N kit at CT and it worked very well, the filter after being cleaned just came as a brand new.

I highly recommend reading the instructions and following them step by step. I also highly recommend letting the oil soak trough for an afternoon. If you do that as your last step you can not possibly overoil the filter.

That's exactly what I did, I let it soak the entire afternoon, while washing the car. I reinstall the filter, before going out for dinner, we had a very nice ride in the mountains and the car just ran perfectly as usual. Like you said everyone should read the instructions and do the step by step, BTW it is not something you can do at the last minute figure out an afternoon before you can put it on again. I will defenitely buy another filter so this way when it's time to replace I have one ready.
