actually.............
i took a 2k2 auto up an slight hill from a stop light.....1'st gear tied, started walking away from middle of 2nd and kept walking through 3rd, shut it down cuz point was proving....ot, this little girl, yes girl, looked snobby. met at next light and she said how the 255hp can beat my car, and i'm thinking, "i just left you behind back there, hello?" i had the y-pipe, upd, jet(module)and berk intake and 18" wheels, whick i know is not great for speed.......oh, i'm a 2k.

Stock for stock, who knows. I'd probably bet on the 2K2 if he/she torque braked on the launch and manually shifted the tranny. It would probably have a lot to do with which driver controlled wheel spin better on the launch.
A FAQ on who can win in a race? That would be something else?

The 2k2 Auto will take the 5 speed out of the hole. The auto guys were running 14.8 vs my 15.0 at the Track. The thing is my traps were 2-3 mph higher than theirs. From a roll, the 2k2 Auto will be seeing some 2k1 tailights. I would say IMO anything over 20 mph, the 2k-2k1 is faster.

Although, I think it is fair to say that a 2K2 w/Navi would blow the doors off a supercharged 5-speed 2K1. Navi cuts at least two seconds off the quarter.

What about a Supercharged 2k1 5-speed with an Aftermarket Navi??? That would be supercar territory

It looks like this thread turned into a war between the 2k and 2k1 vs 2k2 and 2k3. C mon guys we all know that both of the cars have their adventages and disadventages, but we are still maxima owners so dont be hatin on each other

From what I've seen, 2k2 auto should beat a 2k/2k1 5spd to the line in the 1/4. But its so close that driver ability will make all of the difference. It is easy to pick up a couple tenths just in the launch.
As for stock v. stock - screw that - got mods?

Just wait until VQ35DE aftermarket performance parts become more common; the tide of this thread (and threads like it will turn). In a year or two, the VQ35 motor will be in every Nissan/Infiniti (exc. Sentra/Q45/M45) so there'll be mods galore. (Depending on the number mods available in 3 years, I may buyout the lease on my 2K2.)
With equal mods, there's no comparison. The 2K2+ auto will take the checkered flag each time.

The VQ35 in the Sentra?
On a separate but related note, I'm really not sure why anybody would think that the Maxima would be at the top of the aftermarket list these days. Given that mods have to be developed differently for each application of the VQ35, I'm thinking that the 350Z and G35 are at the top of the list, then the Altima and last the Maxima. I think, if anything, the future will bring less and less aftermarket attention to the Maxima itself, despite the popularity of the VQ35.
DAMN! I responded to this thread again. I'm heading out of town in a few hours and promise to be busy as hell for a couple days. Hopefully this thread will be locked by then.

To any new 2K2 owner
don't get such big heads, ok so you auto's are running high 14's and 2k's and 2k1 manuals are running low 15's, those tenths are easily made up in launch, shifts, reaction time, weight, etc...
Here is a link to a good comparison.

It's disturbing and even a little depressing that some of "you 2k2 guys" are starting to talk smack on other Maxima drivers. I know it's only natural for a rivalry like this to start, but I remember this forum being A LOT more friendly a year or so ago. It'd be nice if it could stay that way.
That said...
From a dead stop I'd put money on the 2k2 auto everytime. But from a roll it gets pretty interesting. The WIDE ratio 4AT tranny has lots of holes, and even though the 2k1 has much less power, the manual tranny lets them put the engine in the powrband regardless of what speed they're at because of the much closer ratios. From 30-50, and 70-90, a 2k1 5spd has MUCH better passing times than a 2k2 auto. The only place they were pretty equal was from 50-70. This is from CarTest2000 simulations, which have been pretty accurate when put to the test in the real world.
Oh yeah, "you 2k2 auto guys", my old slow 4th Gen 5spd also has better 30-50, equal 50-70, and better 70-90 passing times than jOOOOOOO so watchout!
