When is the next Auto Show that Nissan would likely make an announcement? I beleive Nissan will let the cat out of the bag at the next major Auto Show, I just Don't know when that is. Is it in the winter? Anyone have any insight?

Here what I found on North American International Auto Show site:

North American International Auto Show Announces Dates For 2003:

Bill Demmer, senior co-chairman of NAIAS 2003, said that Sunday, January 5, through Monday, January 20, have been reserved at Cobo Center in Detroit for the annual industry extravaganza that features more than 750 new concept and production vehicles.

I'LL BE THERE FOR SURE

I predict that nissan will make the maxima a crap car for the 6th gen... They should either kill the maxima line so they won't embarrass maxima owners or they should restore the maxima to it's old sporty self

Don't get too excited. I don't think the outlook is a bleak as you're painting it. The rumors out there are quite interesting.

I think the new Max will just be a Nissan version of the M45, and it should sell for around 35-38 grand.

Doubtful, the M45 is known as the Nissan Gloria in the Japanese Market. There's no way Nissan will convert the Maxima into a Gloria.

Maxima: Nissan’s sporty sedan will be redesigned for the 2004 model year on the FWD platform also being developed for the Altima, Quest and the Murano, a new sport wagon. The new Maxima will be different in styling, size and horsepower to move it further upscale from the Altima. The car arrives in the spring of 2003.

If anything, we can expect the Maxima to be either a FWD or AWD vehicle when it comes out.

Even though it won't happen >>

I think it would've been smart of Nissan to redo the rear end of the G35 and rebadge it as a Maxima.

I read on FreshAlloy.com a few days ago that Infiniti will be getting an I35 based off of the 6th Gen Maxima. The new I35 would have AWD standard and would typically have exclusive options over the Maxima. This made me wonder if Nissan will make AWD available on the 6th Gen Maxima since Infiniti has already stated they no longer want rebadged North American Nissans. At least AWD would make the I35 very exclusive and give someone a real REASON to buy the Infiniti over the Nissan.

I say, if they really no longer want rebadged NA Nissan's that they should sell us the real Maxima as a Nissan - currently known as the Infiniti I35 - with all the bells and whistles that go with it.

From what I hear from a few folks.. Nissan will be discontinuing the max in a couple years. The altima will take the place of the maxima and they'll be coming out with a new, larger (than the maxima) car.

Pure speculation I guess, but I've heard it from a few people that seem to know what they're talking about..
Discontinue the flagship?! Well, they brought the Z back didn't they? I'm just waiting for the Pulsar NX to make a comeback...oh yeah baby

This is something interesting that happens every time i think about it...

Maxima GT-R anyone? or maybe SE-R..

So the Sentra SE-R looks like a mini skyline...and have any of the 5th gen dudes ever looked hard at your Max's headlights, squint, then see a R34 Skyline right before you? Also check out the tails on your 5th gen...see how they contain more circular patterns than the 4th gen?

Those Nissan R&D people are smart and good at what they do (especially in the times of the NX). Why not bring the GT-R over here? Because they don't know for sure how well it will do, so then bring it in parts and when satisfied release an ultimate combination of everything they've tested out.

It's a marketing ploy!!!

Since the Morano (sp?) will be available with the CVT transmission with 7 preset gears, I'm willing to bet anyone that the Maxima and Altima will soon get it.

Not sure how connected this reviewer is, but he says in this article that a Nissan official claims the '04 will be rear wheel drive.

I've read articles from this guy about the 350Z from back in 99 when it was just a concept...and i think something about the "Infiniti" 2001 "R35" GT-R from before it showed up at any auto show.

He usually hits the nail on the head. If he's off on anything, it's usually projected horsepower which can be changed by the manufacturer at the last minute (like how the 350Z was 200HP, then 240, and then 280+).

Who knows? I still think it's gonna be ugly, just like most cars that are dumping curves for "stylish" angles.

I agree. I love the current design of the Max and even the Altima, but if those spy shots of the Max are accurate, it will be a total disappointment.

well after seeing the pics of the new 2004 max and the large size, i guess i will not be a repeat buyer. still love my 96, my 2000 is ok, but will look to maybe the 350z or other car to buy. maybe even the upcoming rx8. will wait and see, unless the alima improves a bit more..

noooo! You can't leave the Maxima! Just wait for the 7th generation Maxima. I Heard that it will have flying capabilities. Oh yeah, the 7th gen will also have those lamborghini doors..the ones that go up. So you better not leave the Maxima community.

Ok, how about you having a sense of humour?

"Instruments are deeply recessed, which means the front passenger cannot read the speedometer. In households where the speed is a touchy issue, this can help preserve a marriage. (The gauges are also nicely backlit in orange.)"

To an intelligent person, it sounds like he is describing the instrument cluster of the Altima.

... Better yet, why don't you just send him an email and ask if it was a typo?

THey shouldnt make a 6th gen max yet, they should re-release the 1st through 5th gen max's again, everyone of them. I want a brand new 87 max with no miles on it, and everything working, I also want it with 255 hp. oh yeah, i want it to cost what mine cost new, $10,495.

I'd like the 94 with all the goodies that a 04 car would have. Maybe a twin turbo engine in that sucker.

I love the old box 2nd gen design, of course maybe some more trendy interior colors, and some leather, but everything else was allready there, alarm, sunroof, power everything, equalizer, I just want my engine souped up alot. That would be an excellent race if they re-released 1st through 5th gen, and put all of them on the line (obviously I know it won't ever happen) but what a sight!

If we lived in a Star Trek moneyless society then it could be done...there would be no costs.

The 2nd gen came with eq???
