I love the old box 2nd gen design, of course maybe some more trendy interior colors, and some leather, but everything else was allready there, alarm, sunroof, power everything, equalizer, I just want my engine souped up alot. That would be an excellent race if they re-released 1st through 5th gen, and put all of them on the line (obviously I know it won't ever happen) but what a sight!

Lights are on.....
I'm surprised that the car will be available in February but it's almost October and there is no word on what's gonna happen. Any Auto shows coming up that might have Nissan displaying it's new FLagship for the US?

Why does no one believe me...
I've talked to Nissan engineers about the 6th gen max. It's a FWD car with a 3.5L V-6 that has been hopped up to have more power output than the current VQ3.5 in the 2002-2003 Max. There was laughter when BrianV's pictures were mentioned. I'm told that, "No one outside of Nissan has really seen the 2004 Maxima." I could not nail down exactly what Brian took a picture of, but according to what I was told it's not what the 2004 Max actually looks like.

Re: Video of new maxima?
If that's it, then that will go down as the ugliest Maxima that ever existed. That thing is gross.
Interesting thing, this is a Nissan ad, yet you do see the side front left profile of a G35 in there. Are they putting the G35 into the Nissan lineup too, as the new Skyline? That would be very very interesting.

Umm, yes that IS a Primera, and it's followed by the GT-R concept ::drools:: Am i the only one that likes that car? Oh, and if you look for a little while, you'll see the guy changing gears on the 6-speed maxima running through the desert.
So what ever happened to the Alpha Truck?

"The Maxima, which in recent generations has been a muscular front-wheel drive car, is in need of an overhaul because of the Altima's recent successful upgrade. It will reap the benefits of sharing platforms with the Murano, undoubtedly acquiring additional ponies under the hood and an improved all-wheel drive gallop."

My bet for Nissan in 2004 is that the SE-R will go to 180-190HP, the Altima 2.5/3.5 will go 190/260HP respectively (to further top Honda's Accord), the 350z to 290-300HP (should be 350HP
), and the 6th gen Maxima should boast 280 ponies or at least 270. By 2010, all Nissan models will come with 19" wheels as well as over 300HP.
Actually, the 2003 Altima tops the Accord on horses, 245 to 240 according to the Altima page on the Nissan website. Strangely, nowhere in the adverts on TV is this mentioned. Nissan needs to publicise this to get the public in the know..Honda has floating internet ads all over the place..

That car doesn't seem to be on the Altima platform, although we're not familiar with this car so our judgment may be a lil off.
It sure as hell does feel like a Maxima to me though. Mid-November, I feel, is when we'll really know. The force has told me this
I thought the new max would have the 4.5L V8 from the Q45\M45 as an option? Maybe they'll just redesign the entire thing for '04 then release a new drivetrain for '05... that seems to be the way manufacturers like to do things these days.
Re: Looks like this is the new Max????
This confirms what was initially suspected all along. BrianV got pictures of it a while back. It's a bigger, more luxified, new Altima. The exterior? Well
Not bad, I guess.

Re: Re: Re: Looks like this is the new Max????
Not likely another passenger sedan. We have the Maxima, Altima, and Sentra. Try to fit anything in between and your bound to cannibalize another of their own products market share. Also, Infiniti is expanding it's product line, and keeping it's line distinct from Nissan. No more Maxima/I30 twins. The Altima has the Camry and Accord market completely covered with it 4 a V6 cylinder options. The Maxima always had only a V6 and was pitted against them and losing b/c entry level was too high. I'm betting that the Altima will take over as Nissan's flagship sports sedan. The sentra covers the entry level sedan, and the new maxima will be sporty, and really big. Since it will be even bigger than the the new Altima, it's going to the Toyota Avalon market. Sort of Japan's answer to the BMW 7 series, Benz S class, but with an Avalon flavor, so to speak.
We should start betting on what the next Max is. I'll put my money on those BrianV PICs

We also forget that the 04s are American and not Japanese. Maybe the BrianV pics are right on the money after all. AWD is all i ask for, but not like i'll buy the car... just for bragging that something i own now comes in AWD form.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Looks like this is the new Max????
I think the V6 Altima SE should've been a 2-door like the Accord
A 2-door AWD Maxima SE would kick some serious a$$, but unfortunately mess with the Z's mojo.
I agree with you about them most likely not introducing another car. I didn't realize when i was looking at the nissan japan site that they mix the infinitis with the nissans over there (hence the over half a dozen sedans).
About the flagship thing, just because the Altima sells more doesn't mean that it'll be the flagship (not that your reasons have to do with it selling more). The flagship is the big car, the big guy of the fleet--the most important car. For now that's the Maxima. Besides, "Nissan's Flagship" is the motto for the Maxima so that most likely wouldn't change. I'll destroy Nissan's HQ if they ever demote the Maxima!!!
j/k
The Avalon thing makes sense... who (Alty or Max) would you put against Toyota's Solara? (Nissan really needs a 2-door version of one of their sedans
)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Looks like this is the new Max????
Yeah, the Maxima will definitely remain the flagship, but the Altima SE will become their best sports sedan. It's like the product lineup of BMW. The 7 series flagship, and the best sports sedan in the world, the M5.
As for a coupe, the only 2 things that come to mind are to bring the G35C over to the Nissan Lineup, or introduce a Altima coupe. Given that they will be very similar, they could cannibalize each other, so it may not work for the Nissan/Infiniti lineup. The G35 coupe may have to stand alone. After all, Honda doesn't have an acura to hurt the accord coupe. And neither does Lexus have anything to hurt the Solara coupe.

for the 04 max, they should improve the transmission, and change it to a 5 speed auto instead of 4 speed... cuz i think porportionately of what the engine pulls, the transmission is not capable for the 4 speed auto. and with the new 6 speed.. its the first time with the 6 speed.. so they should improve that.. with a close gear ratio and HLSD.(thats if they still want it FWD). all this has to be done before they even work on the engine.. maybe slight improvements... like throttle and less restriction on the engine to increase HP. instead of changing to a higher displacement.. meaning wasting more gas..AND better suspension and tires... all that said.. it should be a decent car.... thats IMO. hehe well for enthusiasts.. at least you get a faster quarter mile with all that said. lol
Wow lots of info here, I didn't read every post though.
They make lots of headlights here in Ohio. I know of one company that sent out like 30 pairs of headlights for the 2004 maxima. I am not sure if this is just for prototypes or what. They look like headlights similar to the G35, while the tails are similar to the altima.
I also heard about a sunroof option that opens for both front and the back , I am not sure if it is still one piece or not. I am not sure where the roof would go either. Anyone heard about this?
Any word on the offical unveiling? The Detriot Autoshow is approaching in early January. http://www.naias.com/
I plan to go the that. They give group discounts, maybe we could have a little max meet there?
This next month is the big show in Vegas, I won't be able to make that. =P
There is a nice job opening in MI to test current and prototype Nissans(Vehicle Evaluation Engineer): http://www.careers.nissanusa.com/all...ation=Michigan
This is for MEs only though.
I am sure if someone got this, they would not be able to share the info with us though. =D

No that's not a Maxima. It's the Avenir Station wagon. Has AWD...i wish they'd make the 6th gen look like that and bring back the station wagon. "Please turn off the lights.. ::ding, dong:: "

friend who works at the proving grounds just outside of Mesa, AZ.
I keep threatening to kick his **** if he doesn't give me more info
but he won't even tell me what he's testing right now other than it's
a multi-purpose vehicle. Some friend he is ... SHEESH!
Murano or Quest replacement perhaps.

Anyhow, his rumor mill purports 3.5L, FWD and 275 ponies. Could all
be a smoke screen though and I pray the FWD piece of it, at least, is.

Good thing you brought it up though, by examining it you can tell how the grill shape resembles the current maxima. I do hope Nissan keeps the long horizontal agressive headlight format though.
