Reasons this probably won't happen (but I could be wrong): Why make more horsepower than the 350z..unless the 350z will increase it's power? Also, why make it more powerful than most than the g35 unless they higher that power too. I don't see a v8 in the Maxima just yet.

Re: Re: More speculations
I'm guessing that the V8 Maxima will have AWD and a 5 speed auto standard. The 6 speed manual will only be available with the V6. Nice. Appeal to the enthusiasts and the technically advanced.
Poor Volkswagen W8. All that fancy engine technology will be blown away by the new Maxima

Also, if Nissan's sending info to dealers, that pretty much means the information is public, so I would expect to see it all over the web, and it's not.

Now US made for '04
Maximas were only made in Japan prior to the 6th gen (models 2003 and before), but.... As has been posted here many months ago and in Nissan's own press releases (see www.nissannews.com), The next gen 2K4 Maxima will be made in Tennessee with production starting in Jan 2K3.
The pics with Japanese writing around it is the new JDM version of the Cefiro. Are you saying that the next Max will be based completely on the new JDM Cefiro?

Just had my new head unit put in my max....and was talking to the service mgr. He mentioned that the 04's will have close to 280HP and NO V8...only a V6 will be offered. They will be out in March....Go figure.
That's the word from him.......not worth much if you ask me. Its ALL speculation from ALL of us.

I was at a dealer 2 days ago shopping for a 2003 Maxima, and noticed that his computer's desktop had the spy pic of the next Maxima (the big silver altima-looking car that was photographed driving on the highway w/4 japanese guys etc etc), and I asked him about it, and he said that Nissan confirmed to them that that's the new Maxima, but doesn't want to make an official announcement to the public because it would hurt 2003 sales. Anyhow, he said hp gets boosted by about 10-15 hp, and NO AWD option as has been speculated (he said the Infiniti line may end up getting an AWD option, but not Nissan) and no V8 option. Scheduled release is in Spring.
He may be full of it, but I don't know why he would have a spy pic of a new Maxima as his wallpaper on an official dealership computer. Go figure!

They are everywhere.
Re: vito1281/computer wallpaper
I guess my question would be: what useful purpose would be served by using any one of Brian V.'s pictures as computer wallpaper (and, presumably, as a promotional tool), when they are photos of a heavily-disguised, stylistically-amorphous vehicle that reveals very little about the "real" car underneath? If I were a dealer employee, wanting to stare at some representation of the next Maxima, those pictures wouldn't be it. I'm not taking issue with you, Vito; just wondering why these pictures, which, as Padsy points out, have been around for a long time now, really have that much to "say" to a dealer.

IF the '04 Max will have a V8 option...where is this tranversly mountable V8 going to come from? Since this platform will be Altima based and IF it is going to have a V8 it MUST be transversely mounted on this platform! As far as I know, Nissan doesn't currently make a transversly mounted V8.

Even so, I doubt the Max will get a V8 option.

like i stated before im not going to defend myself about what i really dont care about....the 5th gen is going to be the mst sought after version when this max comes out and the 03 and 02 the most highly wanted of the gen 5's....as for the v8?well the OWNER of my dealership not MANAGER is where im getting my info from..not too hard to put a v8 in a rear weel drive car..i never stated anything about a awd car.....rear wheel i said...and as for the guys that know so much about the maxes being built in usa?well read a little more ...only limited numbers will be made there and they WILL NOT BE FOR SALE!sometime close to 2005 for us production maximas...now im done in this thread...its sinceless for me to sit and argue....like i said before gen 5 is the one anyway....if people wanted a car that looked like an altima, they will buy an altima....
im happy with my 03 se 6speed titanium package polished titanium meridian packege car that i paid 23700 for ,msrp price was 30000....
im even good to trade when the new body style comes out,any hit the 03 takes which will be about 2500 dollars was already taken car of.....so im happy and dont really care about a gen 6....was just trying to shed some light for you......im done in this thread because like everybodyelse i am tired of all the talk over a car that wont even be out for over a year.....

The new Max is going to be built in TN. They will be out in about 4-5 months. A new Altima plant is going up in Mississippi in a year or 2.
The Max will be built on a stretched Altima platform, so there will be no RWD and no V8. I gave up on that dream months ago. So Tony, we're calling BS on your story. Sorry, but if you can't scan in a page that talks about a V8, then we're not buying it.

got some interesting news... i was at the nissan dealership couple days ago, to get my recall done. and i was talking to one of the sales guys, and i asked do we really max owners have 255 hp.. and of course he says YES. but i was like how come the dynoes show that 2k2 max and 3.5SE alties have same hp at the wheels. then he started talking about the weight of the car, weight of the wheels, suspension, and all this crap. i didn't believe, and didn't even bother to stay on that subject. so i asked him about the 2004 max. and he said that its gonna be much larger in size and gonna be in the class of mercedes and bmws and stuff.. its going to be in the high luxury. he said its gonna cost AROUND $40,000, IMO i don't know if its for real. and anyways.. he said that its gonna be pulling between 280-310 hp. hmm... maybe thinking of a v8, but i highly doubt it. so yea, he keeps going on saying that he redlined 5th gear on a 2k2 6 spd. and he said that he went 160 mph and things like that... i don't know what he says its true.. but i just felt like pounding him... because you can't go 160 mph here in chicago!!!!!!!!
what a weirdo... but if anyone else have support on the upcoming 04 max. then kool!!

Well...about 42 days left til we find out for sure what Nissan has in store for us.

I think they're unveiling their full-size monster of a truck, as well as the 6th gen Max, but hopefully (crossing fingers) plans of a R35 GT-R. Even though we already have 2 sport coupes
AWD please!!! We need AWD!!!

Can't believe the doubt still . . .
OK, I'll put my money where my mouth is, I'll bet up to 4 people, $40 each, that the new Maxima is the link I posted below. It will be a bigger version of the new Altima platform. Any takers??
I can't beleive that there are still any doubts about the New Maxima. This PIC that has been posted before is definitely it;
New 6th Gen Maxima
Like Tonylittel said earlier, I can definitely see AWD being offered. Think about it, in Nissan's/Infiniti's USA's entire lineup, no sport sedan offers AWD. A glaring omition, if I say so myself.
The only way to get AWD from Nissan/Infinit is in an SUV.
I would almost be willing to bet the AWD and V8 option, too, but I'll leave that out for now
Maybe it won't be there for 2004, but might be added for 2005 , but I'm quite sure but not positive it will be there eventually.

Putting up $160 is quite a challenge ... to be fair, you do know that the pic is off the Nissan Teana right? I'm not saying that it is or isn't the new 2004 Maxima.
When you say bigger than the Altima, are you implying a different platform? I think whatever little media coverage has established that it will be built off the same platform as the current Altima.
I shall abstain from prticipating in this lil wager since I know a little thing or two more about the new Maxima
Til the official unveiling! Cheerios
