Anyone going to get 6th gen?

Just wondering with all flaming going on, does anyone actually consider getting a 6th gen?

If is a RWD with more than 270HP, and for less than 30K. YES!!! I think I would be getting one.

I think I'm leaning toward a GTO. It will probably be around the same price, but with a minimum 360HP and a 405HP option and RWD. Early on they said low 30's to start and recently Lutz mentioned the power figure.

At this point, based on the limited knowledge available (not the he said/she said stuff), I would say I will get one without a doubt. I put 50K+ miles on my AE in 16 months without one major problem. And the minor issues (ECU reprogram, etc) were fixed promptly and professionally by my dealer. I just turned 20K on the '03 TE I bought in July, and it has been flawless (6 speed tranny and all - heck, it only has two paint chips to this point).

With that said, here's the other side.

1) I won't buy an '04. First model year cars scare me a little. If there are good reviews by .org members, I might get one at the end of the model year (cost savings), but I probably won't have enough miles by then to trade anyway.

2) If it is RWD, I WON'T buy it. I drive a ton of miles for work. And weather conditions in Ohio can turn on a dime. Even running dedicated snow tires, I won't be comfortable in winter driving. I like the predictability and control of FWD in the snow.

3) If it's all wheel drive...

So, I guess the point is that like most of us, we will need way more info before buying...I can't wait until Sunday!

3rd on list ...

I realize that I need a large car. Trunk space, head room, shoulder room, ... There are very few cars of it's projected size that have a price tag (hopefully) in the low 30's.

I may get a used '02 Q45, GS430, LS400.

The G35/G35C was hands down my first choice, but when I sat in both back to back, over and over, head room and shoulder room is an issue, not to mention trunk space.

Oh, the M45 is also very nice. looks are a 5 on 10 point scale.

I would get one if I had the money.
I think rwd would be crappy. I prefer either front wheel drive or AWD.
And GTO is a sports car. The maxima is a sports sedan. Which means it has power but it accomidates(can't think of how to spell this word) the people who want a nice sedan car. Plus a GTO would be V8 if you care about that go get a camaro or something.

Probably Not a Maxima, I feel like Nissan keep on Loosing that "Sporty" image of a Maxima. The New maxima seems more like a Avalon to me now, and I am very loyal to Made in Japan products.

Assuming I am still looking for a sporty Sedan in the future,
I will look into G35, Mazda 6, or whatever is available in the future.

Have you seen it? And I mean more than the artist rendering? The Monaro on which the GTO is based is a very clean design.

hacim105, yes the GTO is a coupe and the Max is a sedan. But unlike many coupes the GTO will have a usable backseat and all of the amenities of the current Max (without the solid rear axle). Think G35 coupe with a V8.

GTO to go...

A few points on the 04 GTO. The car is built in Australia as a Holden and will be imported here. I've seen a Monaro sedan in person at a GTO show a few months ago and it is a very clean design in sedan form. It's much cleaner than the 04 Maxima and more sleek than the 5th generation Max. The interior, if it carries over, looks very good for a "domestic" brand car and had reasonable space. My guess is that Pontiac dealers will do some serious price gouging on this car as there will be limited first year production and there is great interest in it from new and old Pontiac fans alike. I bet they go for at least $5K over sticker.

I'm quickly warming up to the car from the pics and specs. I really like it so far. But dayum, an MSRP of $28-34k? WTH?

I'm pretty happy with the performance of my 99 5spd stock, so more performance isn't what I need. And I'm not going to pay that much for a Nissan.

Sorry

If I'm going to be shelling out over $30k for a car, it might as well have a luxury badge on it, and top-notch service to go along with it. Nissan is neither of these. Instead of increasing the price to differentiate it from the Altima, they ought to DROP the price of the Altima so that they can keep the price of the Maxima in check. The Altima is WAY expensive for what it is already.

The Mazda6 looks good, handles good, has the features that I want, and the price is close to $10k LESS than the Maxima. Not as fast, but fast enough for me, and $10k can buy a lot of mods

If the car ends up being just DAMNED GOOD though, I could be swayed. hehe

I was going to post this :P

The GTO is one hellava car - not to mention it's not really a "domestic" car, AND it's design wasn't made by pontiac, but by Holden :P It's just been rebadged :P

It would have to be rear wheel drive

I'm done with front wheel drive. A true performance car is rear wheel drive. My next purchase will have to be rwd. PERIOD!!!

It may look like an Avalon, but in no way will it ever be compared to an Avalon. I think the Maxima is in a class of its own... it looks most like a GS3/400... and a lot of people think its a sporty car. The front grill and the rear are the only issues I have, but a body kit can do wonders for mostly ANY car if done properly. I think now that NISMO is gonna get back into doing parts for Nissans in America, a pretty stylish body kit could be on the way. The photoshop images someone put up on here look pretty damn good.

As for buying another Maxima... I think I'll save up for a BMW or an E-class... The maxima is nice, but you can only stay with one model for so long... upgrades are a must.

Just my two cents.

if i go with nissan next, a 6th gen maxima will never see the light of my driveway. A g35, g35 coupe, murano, xterra will prolly be what i decide between next.

I'm with you. With all that torque the VQ puts out the car definitely should be RWD. The FWD platform just can't take all that power. G35 coupe here I come......

The styling (contrary to popular opinion) is ok by me. But the Altima foundation is not.

They should have stuck with the multilink beam. It works as well as independant without the added cost and weight. And after driving the Altima, I can tell you the ind. rear end treatment did nothing for ride and handling. It got worse if you ask me.

Despite that, the Altima is still a great car, and I am sure the next Maxima will be as well. Just not a driver's car. Nissan is getting soft like VW. They are going for the masses. Which unfortuneatly comes at the expense of enthusiasts.

I like what I am hearing about the Mazda 6s. With a 5-speed, it is decently quick, and every review raves about the suspension and chassis dynamics. And it is only $25k.

I am reserving judgment on the 6th gen until I see the prices and take a test drive (or read some road test reviews.)

My original intent was to get a 6th gen Maxima when the lease on my 5th gen is up this year. But the new Max seems too big. I guess they had to make it longer than the Altima in order to create some sort of customer choice between the two, but I would never drive a car longer than my current 2000 GLE (191.5"). There's no way you could call the 2k4 Max a four-door sports car anymore. And the interior, including that 3-pod instrument cluster, doesn't seem to be an improvement over my 5th gen.

I've driven Maximas since 1991, but right now the Infiniti G35 sedan (186.5") seems a better choice.

Tough call but if it came down to it, I'd get an '03 SE Loaded or GLE at a good deal since dealers will try to clearance them out prior to getting the '04 Max's in thier lots

We are about to sign the paperwork on a 2003 SE fully loaded for an excellent deal.
