I guess they did away with what was a Maxima SE traditon since 89 the White/Titanium faced guages (something everybody else has since imitated). I think they should have kept that on the SE version what do you guys think?

I agree, I like my gauges, so easy on the eyes. The new gauges are not horrible just boring.

I love my gauges. Pretty soon there will be people trying to modify their 6th gen gauges to make them SE.

Out with the old in with the new. They did away with a lot of the old Maxima traits. However there are some new and improved and definately the rear suspension is back!!!

Yeah I like my white faced guages too.

I test drove a 3.5/5MT Altima and didn't care for the new style guages at all. But oh well. No car is ever going to be perfect. I've been looking for the perfect car since 2000, and still haven't found it yet. I don't expect to in the near future either

I agree, the white/titanuim gauges were a pure Maxima SE tradition. What bothers me is that Nissan took away that tradition from the '04 Max, which now carries on in the Pathfinder.

Looks like we'll all be driving Pathfinders when the '04 Max comes out in March

Umnmm, those guages are on the 350Z and the G35 coupe ... they're connected to the steering column so that when you move your steering wheel up and down the guages move with it.

uhhhhh yes i know all that

i was referring to the way each gauge is isolated, hence the altima, 350z, and g35 coupe

as far as the gauges and steering column connected, the G35 sedan does so without that pod shyt, i favor that more

Interior is hideous. What with the flat door panels, acres of plastic dash, and I, too, dislike the pod style gages. Good thing my Max's are new (02 & 03). By the time I'm ready for the next car, they'll have an opportunity to lure me back with the 7th gen. Else I'm on to something else. I'll pass on the "6th Senseless" Max, or whatever it is...it ain't a Maxima. My goodness I'm glad I have what I have!

I agree we have a brand new 03 Pearl white Se and an 03 350Z super Black brand new, just sold the 97 and a 99TL and had a 01(didnt like it to much the 01). We both love the Z and 03 Max alot and will hold on to them until 7th gen appears if it appears if it does. In the mornings we dont ever be mad if the other takes the others car.

Loved the White Guages

I noticed it appears the New Max will have the same guages for both models. I feel the 04 SE should have guages like in the Murano. Thes look alot more sporty and easier on the eyes..

I hate the new gauges in my new Max. They should have kept them white. Too many electronics, lights, to burn out or have to take in and fix if something goes wrong. Having all the electronics should make it easier to use. I teach computers and still haven't learned all of the computerized functions/options in my car. After 2 months.

I think it has to do with the fact that the 6th Gen has an independent rear and the previous Gen's had rear beam. When I was looking at getting my 03 I checked out the 03 Altima. I loved the way it road but the interior was very cheap looking IMO. Now the Altima is very nice looking on inside, not sure how it handles now. I also considered waiting for the 04's to come out but I didn't like the way they looked, but now the design has grown on me a little.

I love my guages on my2003. I wonder why Nissan didn't include it on the 04. Would've looked a lot sportier.

Soooo, what made ya become senseless? You were so in denial. It's good to admit and do what feels good.

Wondering how a lot of people that complained about the redesigned max (it's gauges, grille, etc.) felt once eBay and others offered aftermarkets?

Personally I loved it the moment I saw pics and read spec about it. So happy to have one sooner than I dreamed. Kepping mine Stock. except red calipers and gunmetal pedals.

I miss the gauges on my 97. But I'm growing to love the gauges on my 04. Would've been nice if they kept them white though.

Wow an old thread revisited, I guess 01 was the last year they were a real white. I know the 02/03's are more titanium colored as well as the 04's. Also funny NIssan was the first to have those gauges in a car that was going to be in regular production in the 89 Maxima, since lots of copied but most still not as good as the original. Some I have been in stay white at night and look silly.

I like my silver guages. Maybe since that's what I have and never seen the white, don't think I would want the white anyway.

"MONTE 01&97 SE: Some I have been in stay white at night and look silly."
So, do the max whites glow a color at night? Now that may be worth it.

They do sell whites on eBay. Mr. super mod (exploring the info screen change, so brave) just got them, awaiting night pics.

Maximas background typically look black or a darker color at night, whereas some stay solid white on green, red etc.

I guess I ate crow big time on this posting! I'd forgotten about this until I got a notice of a new posting to this thread. I've already had the 04 model and traded it for an FX 45. Liked the Max, and now that I also have a 350ZR, I find I do like the guage pods and everything else about it that I criticized until I knew better and had actually been IN one...the guage layout in the FX is along the lines of what I prefer most, but hey, I think I was a little harsh to start with on the Maxima...personally, my favorite max is still the 3rd gen...
