That appears to be a good number for the dealer. I got $2300 off MSRP.

Well, don't tell anyone but I got the Nissan VPP discount to invoice on an SL with elite and sunroof (and the mats, flaps). It took the sticker from $36 and change to $30 and change. HUGE discount and I'm forever grateful to my buddy that works for Nissan. Trading out of a recently purchased 03 GLE, I needed the discount to make the deal appear to be rational. Fortunately, I got within $1k of getting out of the 03 what I paid for it, cause I got a great deal on it too.

srm

2 dealers & Invoice

I got one dealer willing at $500 over invoice.
The other wants 4% (which is not too good)

By the way....just multiply MSRP times .915 and you get pretty close to invoice.

So you paid nothing out of pocket except for $400 dollars when you drove out of the dealership?

Hmmmmm.....longtime no see for me on this forum. I was an avid poster here from '97 -'99 just after I purchased my '97 SE 5spd. This forum seems to have survived splendidly! I can remember the days of out of control flame wars, immature personalities, server failures and domain battles.

To the point however; I dropped by my Nissan dealer over this past weekend intent on only test driving a 2k4, and walked out with an order in my pocket. There were no 6 spds on the lot, and none slated for delivery here in Maine any time soon, so I custom ordered a black 6spd SE with the elite package, limited slip diff., and burnt orange leather. The dealer sales manager surprised me by writing down both the MSRP and invoice figures (which I already knew) side by side, and asked me what I thought would be a fair profit for his sale. I suggested 3% (he probably would have accepted lower) and I ended up with a discount of $2625.

Well the only down side to all this is waiting for the car to be built and delivered. Looks like sometime around the first of August!

Anyone want to buy a wht. 97 5spd with 78k, and a tricked custom stereo?

I bet you get it sooner than Aug. Mine was ordered the first week of April. They said it would be in mid-late May. I just got a call from the dealership today and they said everything was ahead of schedule. Now it's due the week of 5-5

Re: What are people pay for the Maxima 2004

I paid $1000 over invoice for a Spirited Bronze SE, black interior, Journey, splash guards and VDC. I did not have to bargain I just quoted a price and they said deal. I am sure I could have grinded them down some more but I am not into picking them off as they will be servicing the car until the Nissan's warranty expires.

I ordered the car two weeks ago and I expect delivery before the end of May. I can not wait. I currently drive a 2001 330i 5sp but it is too small but damn is it fun!!!!!!!

O'Brien Nissan in Hawthorne, NJ is the best place to buy your Nissan!

AVOID RAMSEY NISSAN LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! They told me I could not order a Maxima as Nissan does not take car orders and if I wanted to order a Maxima I would have to wait 16 weeks. I told them I thought that was ridiculous and the sales manager told me to 'go buy a Ford or a Chevy'. I informed him that my 2001 330i took 5 weeks from the time I ordered it until delivery and it was shipped from Germany. He told me whatever and I walked out of the show room and drove to O'brien Nissan in Hawthorn, NJ.

O'Brien Nissan rocks!

Fawk Ramsey Nissan! I wanted a 2001 Max and got the same treatment so I leased the 330i instead. I assumed it would be different over two years later...I was very wrong!

Am I reading this correctly, you got the elite, 6spd manual, and limited slip?? I thought this was an invalid order combo? Are you in the US? Do tell, I'd love to order one in the same config, especially with onyx and burnt orange leather

See the message thread I started titled "No HLSD with Elite Package?".

When I posted my original response to this thread, my order had been placed with the dealer on 4/12/03 and was subject to availability. The actual process/placement of the order was to occur this week (orders are only allowed the first week of every month by Nissan). Since your question peaked my interest, I called my dealer and talked with the sales manager just a few minutes ago. My order has not been placed, but he expects to complete his ordering by Thursday. He reviewed his dealer ordering documentation which shows the HLSD as a valid option with a 6spd Elite equipped Max. This seems to directly contradict the Nissan website which does not allow this combination. Either my dealer or the Nissan website is correct, only time will tell for me. However, I will not be purchasing this car if I can't get it equipped as 6spd/Elite/HLSD.

I'll keep you posted!

We had all the colors available from the Nissan Leather swatches. Instead of the standard premium package Mocha Latte, we chose Camel... it's a bit more tan to give a more traditional sports look. The dealer upgrade on the sticker for other cars on the lot which already had it was $2400, but we got it for and additional 1200... bringing the total to 31200 out the door. They are evening going to redo the center console leather to provide a perfect match. The installer used to work for the local Lexus dealer and they gave us a lifetime warranty on the leather.

More on pricing

In the past week I have contacted two Chicago area dealers--both fairly high volume (both in south suburbs.) At one I asked the sales manager if he'd take 3% over invoice, and without hesitation or even a counter offer, was willing to sell me an 04 SL list price 31,190 for 3%over. The second dealer volunteered to sell me the same car for 1.9% over invoice. I didn't counter since I'm going to have to wait to order the car the first week of June (Can't order except first week of each month). ANYWAY, these prices, taken with those reported earlier in this thread, probably mean that--at present--nobody should be paying more than 3% over invoice. Look invoice price up at kbb.com or similar sites.

2Y4 Impressions

Sure the quad exhausts are cool. And 10 more horses never hurt. But what's with the roof that doesn't open, and the hideous
" French " look grille. I could of bought one, but instead I just bought an '02 with 4800 miles on it about a week ago. The '02 still smells and looks brand new ( pics w/mods coming soon ). It costs $ 11,000 less and looks 11,000 times better. And I didn't have to support Renault. Oh, and I still have his Super Black older brother for sale ('98 SE leather LOADED!) if anyone's interested. Coincidently, a much better Bose in the '98 than the '02. Wish I could take it with me, but here comes the Basslink.

Let it go already. I'm happy you like your car. Those of us with a 6th gen like ours. I was happy with my '98 until I totalled it.... It seems like there's a lot of this lately.

Edmunds.com has this car with these options invoiced at $26,829. MSRP $29,390.

So, you basically paid full sticker price for this car. Hope you at least got a good interest rate.

Actually he didnt pay full sticker because he said the price he paid was "on the road". So it appears he was able to knock a couple of grand off the sticker.

Oh, I wasn't sure what that meant. I've never heard it before so I didn't know if that included tax, title and license or not.

most of you are paying over 30 grand for a Nissan Maxima. You could have bought a '01-02 Q45, a '00-01 GS400/430, a '99-'00 BMW 540, a '01 A6 2.7T, cars that are more refined, have better resale values, prestige, performance, utility, name it. What makes you guys do it, the brand loyalty?

Y2K- All the cars u mentioned are excellent cars but I bought an '04 Max SL because u are getting alot of car for the money. How did Nissan do it?
BTW I paid $31,800 for a spirited bronze SL w/ elite package, sunroof, mud flaps, carpets. Added a spoiler for $175+$70 for installation.

but what makes it "a lot of car for the money", leather interior, BOSE, or the Maxima name? I am sure 6th gen does not have many options that other luxury cars have, like rain sensing wipers, etc etc.

Rain sensing wipers sounds like a feature that would really bug the crap out of me. I hate watching wipers scrub across my windshield as it is so I like to set them to the least obnoxious setting. Last thing I need is some stupid computer trying to override what my eyes are telling me. Screw that. I'll do it myself.

About the only thing I wish my '03 SE (which I paid $22k for new about two months ago) had is rear wheel drive. For a performance sedan that makes 255hp this car should really be rear wheel drive.

So I could get a 3-5 year old car or a new car with a lot of the same features? I won't buy a car that is more than 2 years old, too many miles and I don't need someone else's problems.

As for the rain sensing wipers, that has to be the laziest thing ever. If you are too lazy to flick the wipers on with your finger while 90% of you hand doesn't even have to move off the wheel, god help you

When it comes to resale value, any used car will depreciate less than any new car, so that really doesn't come into play. I wanted a reliable fun car, this is my first nissan, so it isn't brand loyalty for me.

This is my first Nissan and I'm totally happy with it. If I wanted to pick up any of those other cars, then I would have. I didn't buy this car for resale value, prestige...I bought it because I like it and if I'm going to put that much money into something, I better like it.

This is the age old debate of "new" vs. "value". Buying a new car is a luxury, pure and simple. Especially when used cars in excellent condition at cheaper prices are available. As for Audi and BMW, I'll kill that right off: Do you want the maintenance costs associated with a used BMW or Audi? Of course, you can get one certified (basic maintenance covered for X years), but then you're paying more and probably about the same as a new Maxima. Sure, you could go for a used Maxima, Infinity Q45 or Lexus GS400; that's probably a good deal if you like the styling of those cars.

I bought my '95 Maxima SE brand new in Aug '94 for $23.5k loaded. And now, after 130k miles of quality trouble-free driving, I'm ready to start looking for another. Talk about value! I'm definitely giving the G6 Maxima a long hard look.
