nav upgrade on the 04

I'm looking into a SE 04, and I like others seem screwed with the nav package only coming in automatic. I MUST have the 6spd manual, but I don't want the elite package. I plan to have kids soon, and bucket seats on the back don't look like they would work with the seat for a 'lil one. So I'm looking at a SE, HLSD, driver preferred package. I'm toying around with installing an aftermarket nav system since I can't get one, and was wondering if anyone out there has done this. There are a few possible options I can think of.

1) order the nav system parts themselves from nissan, and install the think yourself. Don't know how much they cost, but I'm sure they would have to offer them if case anyones broke and needed replacement.
2) get a kenwood touch screen or regular alpine/pioneer setup, and somehow cut a hole in the dash so it's own screen can pop out
3) Get alpine or kenwood unit that has a seperate screen, and somehow swap out the screen that has the temperator controls and engine stats listed on it.

1 seems most feasible. 2 sucks because you are cutting into the center console. 3) would be nice, but would doing anything with that screen void your warranty? How would you get the engine stats/temp to display then? That might get screwey.

Can anyone think of another option, or am I just screwed?

Hooray, I'm not the only one. I would make this suggestion: Call Nissan at 1-800-647-7271 then Option 0 then Option 1 then extension 8435 and talk to Sean Daily. Maybe if Nissan sees a demand for the Journey package with the 6-speed, they'll offer it.

As far as current options go, the Elite package seems to be the only reasonable choice.

dang.. and I must have the HLSD, I guess I'm screwed. You'd think if the elite came with the traction control on the auto, it would have the hlsd on the manual.. guess I'm screwed. I wonder which is harder to install aftermarket, the HLSD or the nav?

I don't know anything about an after market HLSD, but I wouldn't mind hearing about it. As far as a nav goes. It would be cheaper than the one they sell you, but not as integrated if you go after market

Re: Re: nav upgrade on the 04

Talked to Sean today, didn't even think he would call me back but he did. I gave him an earful about people complaining about not being able to get the manual, hlsd, and nav together. I also let him know none of the local dealers have any idea about the combos available, maybe better training was in order. I doubt it'll do any good, he said they just were limited on the build configurations for the MT due to 'demand'.

Anyways, anyone else looking for this combo give him a call to let him know this is a problem
